Title: Tonneau cover question
Post by: Snigalfriz on June 21, 2017, 12:03:36 PM
Howdy folks,

Does anyone know how tonneau cover connects in the front by the windshield?

I can't quite make it out by the pics I have found.

I am having a custom cover built, but haven't decided is I will go with the under the windshield or over the windshield approach.

Russ may still have tonneau covers, but I'd check with him if you haven't started with the custom made one (sounds $$$). Check out my post http://teamcapri.com/forum/index.php/topic,3488.msg127858.html#msg127858 (http://teamcapri.com/forum/index.php/topic,3488.msg127858.html#msg127858) for how to make stock style clips at the dash out of nylon straps and plastic snap clips from the fabric store. The stock metal clips are no longer available unless you happen upon a very rare junkyard find. The attachment point in he front is the 3 large headed dashboard screws that you'll see right at the base of the windshield. Don't take all three out at one time or the dash might move and be hard to get the screws back in. The stock clips had holes for those screws to hold them to the dash at those 3 points. Look at my pics on the post.

Thanks SHOwn,

I figured those bolts would have something to do with anchoring the cover.

I have a friend that is an exceptional seamstress and wanted the challenge of making one if I came up with a "pattern".

So I am cutting a "pattern" out of a huge tarp and see what she can do with it.  I want unique "zip outs" and possibly an over the windshield version.

I am going to try and get the pattern cut out tomorrow.

Once the pattern is done and the cover is made you may be able to sell a few. I'd love to have one (I'm cheap though) as I'm always the only one in the car during my 150 mile daily commute.

My67falcon,

I will post what I come up with, and see what the interest is.

My67falcon,

I have almost completed the pattern for the first version.

I am adding some cosmetic changes for fit and finish and working on the mounting hardware (I want to do it a little different than from factory).

Pattern is off to the seamstress.
