Hey Billimena The Ugly Stripper.  You will have to come up next year.

Start making your plans ..ie...tell your wife so she can take care of everything.

I am serious dude, you will have an absolute blast. Then you will be coming year after year.

Who knows, you may take home the polished turd award.

Last year before the Gathering, I heard rumors of all kinds of people showing up.

I heard excuses like,
(1)My car isnt just ready.
(2)Iv'e still got some things I want to do to it before I show it.
(3)It's just my daily driver and it looks kinda  ragged.

Folks, these are just excuses.

We don't care if your car is not the prettiest of them all, heck, were glad you came.

So, if you have things you still want to do to it, bring it.  Maybe you can see it in application. Or even get a different idea.

The only excuse for not ready, is: It don't have any wheels.  OR Da engine is broke.

come on, enjoy yourself for a day.  If it's the Lords will, I promise you a wonderful day you won't soon forget.

This year we are asking that people register early.  To reserve t-shirt size.  All of this information is forthcoming.  Hopefully by the middle of march, some firm details, and a few suprises will be hammered out.

Seriously, everybody....If you check out CapriTypeR's pics from the 3rd Annual Meet, you'll see one of the Capri's we brought was white with a black hard top, a red hood, a missing headlight cover and a chunk of the Razzi kit front bumper cover was missing.  Yet--we all had a great time!  It's not a beauty contest.  So come on out and have a blast!  The site of so many Capri's gathered together will, at the very least, give ya a great case of "perma-smile"!

Most of the capris I see have the headlights up during the day, the messed up top, dents, faded paint... ...but I hardly ever see em, so its still a treat... ...Plus it makes me more proud of ours =)

All I have to say is Somehow or another I am going to make it. Even if I have to push my capri there. But guys, please dont freak out on my homemade hard top. Ive got nearly 30.00 invested in it. It is a sight for sore eyes. Just promise you wont laugh at it. Even capris have feeling too.

Here are a few pics of the exterior of my car. I will get some underhood pics later on today. I need to visit the car wash first. I have a nasty valve cover leak plus the power steering hose is leaking as well.  (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v306/TexasCapri1/capri001.jpg)

How do you roll a capri? More importantly, how do you survive a roll in a convertible?

Hate to say it, but that car was basically totaled before the wreck. Its quite sad... ...like our capri... ...most of the capris I see running around town... ...they are in need of repair that would total way more than their cars worth! Every capri up and running is VERY lucky not to have a salvage title... ...cuz I dont know who'd restore one at that level.

I only messed up my front driver's side a bit, and for NEW PARTS ONLY would have cost what I paid for the car. Thankfully theres people here that offer parts from their "stash's". I do belive I have a bit of frame damage too, so cost of labor would be insane. I'm going to get mine taken care of though...

Well, unfortunaltly, she broadsided a truck that pulled out in front of her on the highway. The car slid at an angle into the ditch, the car then flipped up and rolled 1 time which was enough to total it. it was a good thing that the truck was 4x4 and somewhat off the ground. I think that I could have fixed the car, but replacing the hood, fenders and windsheild would have cost more than what I paid for the car. Plus, the body is crooked on the passenger side pretty badly. She did spend 2 days in the hospital due to some fractures in her wrists from holding the steering wheel to brace herself.

Infact, I wont even have a light bar installed in my mustang despite how everyone suggests that I get one, claiming it completes the car. Neither of our convertibles has hardtops. I dont like the look of the capris... ...and they only made 500 mustang ones.

We bought the capri with a huge crack in the windsheild. Couldnt bring it to a show like that, we did research and a capri window was typically $600! We found someone who not only had a new on in stock, but came to our house and installed it for $200.

Was it the trucks fault? is his insurance gonna total it, and pay pain and suffer, and medical? Cuz thats whats gonna suck... ...if they total it, itll have a salvage title. If it was your fault, then you wouldnt have to file a claim, and therefore it wouldnt get totaled.

How attached are you to the car? I know that if something were to happen to my mustang, Id absolutely HAD to fix it... ...theres no way I could love another. ...its not like a cat... ...you cant just replace it.  :D  If this isnt the case, my suggestion to you is to buy a new capri... ...use the old capri as the parts car

I disagree with the "can not love another".  My first Capri was totaled by a Pizza Hut delivery guy, and I cried for a week, then I went car shopping.  I never intended on buying another Capri.  After checking the paper and standing slack jawed at used car lots, I decided to drive around and see what unadvertised stuff I could find.  The first car I saw was another '91 NA.  I seriously considered buying it, but it was an automatic - that's just unamerican.  Oh well it was nice owning a Capri for the 6 years I had it.  Time to move on.  The next day my son tells me that he just saw a local dealer put an XR2 out on the lot.  I am now convinced it was karma.  Needless to say I bought it.  I believe that Precious and I were meant to be together.
Buy another one.

The truck driver had insurance and they totaled the car, paid for most of the hospital bills, as for the car, I was not really fond of it. it was a 91 base model with automatic trans. Basically, I hate automatics. Just too much maintence. Mine is 5spd. Mine will 150, I dont know how much more than that, but it will do it according to one of my freinds that works with the Kleberg County Sheriff's office. He allows me to run the shit out of my car and clock me in the 1/4 mile to 1 mile range to let me see how fast it will go. I also know his radar is accurate because he has a 2005 unit, made by snyper. I just had alot of money to spend at one time, and alot of time on my hands, so I built another fast car.

My first car was a 1988 red bmw convertible. I loved that thing... And when it was totaled I was devistaed. I wanted everything to fix it. We went looking and there were only two 80s bmw convertibles for sale. A blue one and a red one. I really wanted the red one (came with a hard top, looked like mine, minus the chin spolier, and rear spoiler) but for the a cheaper price I could get a newer faster, better, car. I ended up getting the mustang. Took me a while to love it. The biggest thing I hated about it was that EVERYONE had it... ...and in 98, EVERYONE had that body style... I knew that before even owning one!

Like the capri, I didnt see the beemer anywhere, it was rare. You dont see 80s beemers around here, only new ones (no classics, no vintage) I was a foolish kid. I had gotten it when I was 14, and had always believed that whatever happened I would still have it... ...man was I wrong. I still love that thing, and still want one... ...but now I have the mustang and have bonded with it for 6 years... ...I feel just as attached to it as the I was with the beemer... ..and if anything should ever happen to it...   ...there will be DEATH!

Oh, and some chick around here has my beemer. Looks just like it only in better condition then when I had it! Oh how she likes to haunt me with it.

I really disagree with your disagreement. I started out with the nickname Camaro King around here because all I had was like 8 70-78 Z-28's. I had one for every year. I honestly loved all those cars, broke them all in, hell, one of em' I wouldnt even touch the door handles without either a glove on or a cloth cause' it was so pretty. I wound up selling everyone of them. You really shouldnt love a car that much. One thing my Grandpa always told me, when you love your car to the point that you want to be buried in it, then you need to get rid of it. That is called Possed by automobile. Kinda like Christine the movie. He loved that car and it cost him his life. But of course, that is a movie. But same concept. The less scared of your car you are, the more dangerous it actually is to you. Thats just my outlook on it.

And I have made the commitment to make it to this meet also.  I usually have one in KC and it has gotten too hard for people to stay committed to helping me organize that.  When I don't live there, it's too tough to rely on people.  Oh well, I'll go to this one this year and plan one in Omaha NE next year.  I've talked to Dr. Bob, and I'll be raffling some 2nerfixx parts like clear corners, strut bar, and possibly a boost valve kit, and some profits will go to the meet to help Bob out with the costs.  Well, hope to see you all there!

P.S.  What's the date and time again?

I saw that I was at a milestone.  This is my 400th post.  While 97% of you wish I would just shut up, it's that other 20% I post for.

This being my 400th post, and being the pompus-ass I am. I am going to use this post to shamelessly promote my Gathering coming up at the end of July.  For those of you who are still undecided, Oh come on man.  Where, and when else are you going to be able to drive your piece of crap Mercury Capri on a race track.

Come on, lets be honest here, most of you are afraid to go because you don't think your car is "pretty" enough.  Let me make this as simple for you as I can.  My car is the prettiest!  There, now that you now know that the spot is taken, maybe the rest of you won't worry about a fashion show.

This is a rare opportunity.  If you are lucky, you will be able to do it more than oncein your lifetime, but why wait.  I know that I have plenty of times fantasized about driving on a race track.  Folks, fantasys do come true.

Where else are you going to be able to see over 30 Capri's in one place, possibly even 50 cars or more if everyone shows up.  We are trying to get some corporate sponsership this year, so the Bag-0-Crap should be outstanding this year.  Just coming for the B.O.C. should be worth it.

Roo-sport and I are even working on getting a famous art company to do a rendition of the Capri for the T-SHIRTS exclusive to us.

Then an opportunity to picnic in one of the most beautiful parks in the world.  where we will be raffling off some great aftermarket parts, and giving away door prizes.  Heck, can you imagine being able to get a pair of clear corners without having to pay an arm and a leg.

Now for our friends who help us keep our cars running, and for anyone else who would like some exposure.  We need some help this year financially.  So for your contribution, we will put your website on our t-shirts.  If you have any other things that you would like to donate to the cause, it is so much appreciated.

Come on folks, it takes YOU to make this a successful Event.  Each and every one of you.  Our cars are becoming extinct, lets not go without a fight.

And now I would like to thank the Academy, my Math teacher, my car, my Irony professor, ...........

I was one of the extras pick up in the Cub Food
parking lotlast year.  I will be there on the 30th of July and I know of one other capri owner who is checking the calendar to see if they can make it too.  I will keep looking for the form to fill out so we can register.
Dr. Bob,
I parted out a 91 N/A last year and have a lot of
parts still left.  If you would like to give some of these away as door prizes contact me and I will let you know what I have.  You can then see what you want and from there you will have prizes at no cost.

I agree with the 94 blue -  someday soon one is going to show up on ebay and then let the bidding begin.  In the mean time, most of the parts I have are dash board parts, lenses and lights (back only) switches, the sun visors
if there is something someone really want and I have it you are more than welcome to it.

Well I feel a little bit better about my Capri, but mine is still crappy compared to 90% of Capri's that are still in service. I still love her though. I finally got some pics of her and will try to upload some. I almost made a custom hardtop for mine out of plexiglass when my softtop ripped. Now, that custom roof is a custom air dam.

Volfenhag-
The more you talk about your car-"Custom this-Custom That", the more I think I like it!!  Nothing better than to see an owners idea of what a Capri should look like. Don't worry about the other 90% being nicer-Who cares!! It's still your "Baby"!
Please get the pictures posted! I want to see it!!

Title: 4th Annual Annual Mid-America Capri Gathering
Post by: drbob on April 06, 2005, 05:42:00 PM
This year, the 4th Annual Mid-America Capri Gathering will start at the Rockford Speedway (http://www.rockfordspeedway.com) in Rockford Illinois at 9:30 am.  We will have the track for two hours.

From the track, we will drive to Freeport, to have a picnic at one of the most beautiful parks in the world (As ex-Navy, I feel I am qualified to make that statement). We request that everybody get their gas before they arrive, because there will be NO gas stops on the way to the park.   At the park, we will have Raffles, door prizes, judging, trophys, tech tips...ect...ect

At the end of the night, if enough are interested, we plan on going to one of the few Drive-In Theaters left in the country.  And from there, depart in peace  (http://smile.gif)

As this event grows, so do costs.  So unfortunately this year, I have to ask for an entrance fee.  For your entrance fee of $25 per car, you get: 1 Bag-O-Crap (This will include a T-shirt and some other very cool Crap.  You also get a couple hours to drive around a 1/4 mile High banked NASCAR fast track.  And finally you get FOOD, and a few raffle tickets that could net you some exceptionally cool Capri stuff.  MUST BE PRESENT TO WIN.  It's worth way more than $25, trust me!  Registration at www.caprigathering.com. (http://www.caprigathering.com.)

You can purchase extra T-shirts for $20 each (add $2.50 for xxl, $3.50 for xxxl...ect)

**all money is non-refundable**

We really hope you take the chance, and time to come and join this Event.  This is a great place to comiserate with other owners, and find new ideas or, parts for your car.

I really need to get all of the registrations and money in by June 15th.  This way, hopefully we can have the money to get the T-shirt order out, so we can have it back by the 30th of July.  If I can afford it, I will get a few extra T-shirts for stragglers, but that won't be many.  So that means the contents of the Bag-O-Crap will vary.

All Capri Convertibles are welcome, no matter what condition they are in.  Just about no one will be turned away.  Can you imagine 50 Capri's in one place?  OK, you probably won't see 50.  But over 30 is a definate probability.

If you can't make it to the Gathering, but like the idea of having an Event like this, and would like to donate to the cause, just fill out the form, put in the "Modifications Section"  you don't plan attend, or something appropriate.    Donations over $35 get an Event  T-shirt sent to them. Donations over $60 will get an official Bag-O-Crap sent to them.  T-shirts will not be sent out until after the event July 30th.  And if you want to be a sponser, $150.  gets your website or business on the T-Shirts, and you receive a nice logo embroidered denim sponsor shirt.  Donations are greatly appreciated.

**************************TAG CARDS**************************************

Tag Cards are 7, 4X6 postcards, and 10, business cards, letting those stray Capri owners know the resources available to them.  Keep some in each of your vehicles.  Just in case.

If you just want Tag Cards, please note as such in the "Modifications" section.

Tag Cards are $5.00 a set. $5.50 if paying via paypal (to cover their fees)  Shipping and handling included.

Drbob, I am very interested in the capri gathering and it sounds like quite an adventure to drive to Rockford. I am going to make a point of making the event. By adventure, I mean that in 1966 my brother and I made a trip from Gary, Indiana to Fort Huachuca, Arizona in a 1964 Triumph Spitfire....following old route 66...the Capri is 10 times the car and should make for a more pleasant adventure. I like the idea for placards to put on other Capris announcing the event. Around Santa fe, new Mexico I have spotted 8 Capris, all different. Pretty amazing for an area of 150,000 people or less, for  a car that is expected to have 30,000 survivors left and the numbers twindling. I would like to see a thread on a Capri count in other areas. I think your doing a hell of a job putting this together. Thanks, Walt

Walt!!

We are looking forward to having you make the trip.  Hopefully the only event you encounter during your drive is ours.

Everybody, Please register early.  If we can get enough people together to purchase 49 t-shirts, It will sure help.  Set-up fee's for 6 color silkscreening, and color seperation of artwork is very expensive.  I plan on getting Beefy-T's.  Might as well get the best right?  At least this way, the T. will last longer than our cars  (http://smile.gif)

To get an idea of what the back of the T will look like, go to caprigathering.com.  It's close, but the T will look much better.

Can anyone tell me if the gathering is still on for the 30th? If so, do I have to pre-register, or can I pay when I get there? Thanks. Unfortunatley, we have spent all our money trying to fix the rash of probs we have been having with this car. I will be doing wheel bearings in the front again today. This is the 5 time Ive done them since January. Bad Design? I hope not, Ford dealership is doing them this time.
Thanks Guys!

Yes, it is still on the 30th of July....There has been no postings to say different!  Yes I need the registration money early (I can't afford it all on my own. T-s will run around $800, which is why I need the money before the 15th of june to pay for the T's)

I do apoligize for charging this year, I thought T-shirts would be a cool thing to do.  And I thought people would want one. Also, it helps me out with expenses (I will still go a quite a few hundred in the hole, even with the registration money, that's OK, I just can't afford more, living on my pension)

I am a newbie but I used to work at T-shirt print shop, I still do art on the side getting it camera ready for printing, so if you have any questions let me know. Also, if you know the sort of design you are wanting graphics, etc I know a lot of tricks to knock down the colors, doing 4 color process versus 6 spot colors, half-tones etc. Sometimes the best shirts only had two or three colors. I made some for my fiance for a St. Louis MOPAC meet with just a metallic silver print and they turned out cool.

For thos of you who were looking for lodging for the Gathering, here is the number to the local Super 8.  815-232-8880  When you make your reservations (and I do recommend making them early because there is something going on in Rockford that weekend) Mention that it is under the CAPRI GATHERING and you will get a discount.  For those of you who will be staying saturday night, and going to the Drive-In, this would probably be the best place.

I will be staying at the Fairfield Inn because I have a family member getting me a room for about $50 because she works for Marriot.  The hotel is in Rockford, Bob you could probably tell me the where abouts exactly though relative to where we'll be.

hey Cory, we have a country in and suites in Freeport, arent they run by Marriot?  As for the fairfield, I think that is out on Perryville RD, about 15 mins from the track.

I'll look into that. I think it's a Carlson hotel though not a Marriot.  I'm only paying about $50 for the Fairfield Inn.

P.S.  Jamy with the pearple XR2 in Ohio wants to possibly help out (monetary wise).  I told him you have sent some of the graphics off to the printer already but might have something else, wasn't sure.

Howdy, this is another call for some financial assistance for the
gathering. If there is any Capri business/or any other business or
person that would like to help with this years gathering, for
sponserships of $100 or more, We will put your Business/name/logo on
our 4X8' banner It will look similar to the front of the new pass
out cards, but with Logo's/names added. Also, we will add your
name/website/business (no logo's) to this years awesome new Capri
gathering T-shirts, and an offical early registration Bag-O-Crap. Oh, did I mention a special Sponser trophy?
At the end of the event, there will be a drawing for the banner,
only for those who chose to sponser this years event a $150 value.

All of the money goes back to the gathering. I make NOTHING. I am
retired Navy, and this year, it will end up costing me over 1 grand
(not including the $350 I spend on the cards) unless I get some
help. My only motivation has been to have a great event for Capri
owners. There have been only a couple people willing to sponser us
so far. These people do not make much money from Capri owners, but
enjoy their cars and want to give back.

Thanks for the help, and I hope to see everyone here.

I thought i'd take the time to tell you all about the park we will be picnic'n in.

I have travlled around the world, and this is one of the most beautiful parks I have seen.  In the park is one of the most exceptional "Folf" (frisbee golf/disc golf) courses around.  There is also a Merry-Go-Round, Tennis courts, a Minature Golf course, Baseball diamond, and a "Band Shell".

I will have a few extra Discs available for a round of Folf.  I have never played Folf before, and am looking forward to receiving the discs and practicing a couple rounds before all of you show up.

Also, in another nearby park is the city pool.  So if it is hot, and you desperatly need to cool down, bring your suit.  The pool is a really nice one with a water slide.

Speaking of Water Slides, Rockford Illinois, has the Largest outdoor Waterpark in the Midwest.  For those of you who have never tried a water rollercoaster, here is your chance (it's a blast).

I am looking forward to seeing everyone here, get your registrations in.  Thanks

Anyone looking for some parts for a N/A -

I had a 91 N/A I parted out and the pieces are still sitting in my basement.
If I have a part you want or need I will send it
to you.  All you have to do is send Dr. Bob  money for the outing.  Now we do need to be reasonable.  Maybe Dr. Bob can set a price for a part you want or you can see what the average price is going for on ebay and send it to Dr. Bob.
Hopefully you will all find something I have which you could use to help this man who sounds sooooooooo  desperate.

Indiana and Iowa have been added to the list.   Time is running out, hurry and register.

And now that my business is taken care of, I want to let you know that on June 25th there will be a Capri Meet in Tampa Florida.  Information from him will be coming up shortly.  I really hope to make it down there, lets hope the car is up to it.  I may have to fly in and bring a sebring or mustang convertible.  Or maybe have Billy let me borrow one of his.

A big howdy all.  My computer has been on the Fritz and I havent had a chance to post anything for a while (I am using the public library right now)  I am getting excited.  For the early chance "Drawing" and early entry B.O.C. we have around 18 registrations.

I hope everyone who has ordered the new Pass-Out cards have received them, let us know what you think.  I have tagged 4 so far.  Now that the weather is nice, I think I am going to go stalk a few parking lots tomorrow and see how many I can find.

The date is coming up fast.  Only 15 more days to register to get the B.O.C. and T-shirt.  I know that everyone looks forward to everyone showing up.  Don't let everyone, and yourself down.

Also, I have to think of something good to write for my monumentous 500th post which comes up next (Can you say: He talks to much?)

Here it is.  Post number 500.

I have gone thru the list and we have 29 cars making the trip so far.  I know of a couple of Capri's in the area, but don't know if they will show up yet (one I am pretty sure of)

So now try to imagine how it will look.  Just to tease everyone who will not show up, We might not post pictures for a while (ya thats right, were cruel, and want to make you suffer)

I am really having trouble picturing 30+ Capri's in various states of decay in one place.  It should prove to be a very interesting day.  I got to see the first trophy (prototype) I like it.

I really look forward to seeing everyone come up/over/down here for the gathering.  And I encourage everyone to try to make it.

I thank you for your support

Hey Cappi.  You are not the first person to ask this question on this thread, but I hope you are the last, ha ha ha ha.  If you would take the time to read the whole thread, all will be revealed to you.  or go to www.caprigathering.com (http://www.caprigathering.com)

33 cars and counting, from 11 different states.  It is going to be very cool seeing all of these cars together.

I asked to put it in the local paper in the events section but they wanted to do a story on me (I really don't want that.  Nothing good comes from having your name in the paper)  But since last year I had a couple people harping in my ear about having publicity, so I relented.  Hopefully I won't have to do it again.

I am going to ask each of you to contact your local papers and try to have the gathering added to their events calender page.

I really look forward to meeting all of you, and some of you again.

I hope everyone has received their Pass-Out Cards that has requested them.  I have tagged 4 cars so far, how about you?   Lets start up a little compitition and no Russ, Maggie, Bill and the rest of you with multiple cars, it does not count if you tag your own cars.

Get your cards and be a parking lot stalker.

And I thank you for your support

When is the deadline? june 25th?

BTW, Texas Capri1's capri is down for an overhaul. He had a catastrophic failure and one of the wheels fell off, severely damaging the underside and front of the car. He IS fixing it, but I highly doubt it will be driveable anytime soon

The deadline for the B.O.C. /T-shirt is the 18th of june.

Now if you don't want a B.O.C./T-shirt, you can just show up with $15, that will get you track time and food.  There can be a raffle for those of you who register late.  Late registers are not elegible for the drawings or trophys.

For those of you, who would like to go to the Drive-In Theater, I recomend getting a room in Freeport.  It will be a very long day, and a nap may be in order.

We have again doubled our attendance.  Last year was 18 cars (thats including the two stragglers who we ran into after we left the track)  Each year you have doubled the attendance to the Gathering, Thats incredible!  Almost 40 cars.  WOW!

And may I point out that Russ towed in one of his Capris last year.  You won't be able to drive your Grand Am around the track, but I'd be more than happy to let you take precious for a spin just so you can say "been there, done that."

Grant, I do remember your name, like I remember The Becks, George, Bobby, Walt......after that I cant recall but if everyone could email me with their T-shirt size and amount of people coming it would really help me alot.  It is all up there, it just needs some reminders.  Aliens come into my house and made my dog hide all of the registration sheets.  I personally they slipped something in my food.   Paypal people I have three records of your coming.

The artwork for the T shirts is at the printers and getting done up.  The Banners are done.  Almost all of the B.O.C. materials have arived.  Helpers are being interviewed and hired.  picnic supplies have arrived, and quotes on food completed. Buttons are being completed.  Trohpy order is in and prototype completed.

A month and a half away.  40+ Capri convertibles from 12 different states will converge on Rockford and Freeport Illinois.  The LARGEST gathering of Capri Convertible enthusiasts in the WORLD.  And the Longest running in NORTH AMERICA.

Take the time, be a part of it.  It will only cost $15 at the door and give you an opportunity to drive your cars on a real NASCAR high banked short track, picnic with a great bunch of people, and be eligible for the drawings of some great stuff including some awesome aftermarket parts.  Pick up your strut bar, and install it right here.  Pick up your MAF and install it here.  Did I hear you say Clear Corners?  There will be a set of clear corners GIVEN AWAY!  Hopefully there will be a new body kit to be sold.

The T-Shirt order is in!  I ordered a few more than we needed (approx 20 of varying size).  So, extra's are going to be available at the Gathering ($25).  What is left will be put on Ebay.  Sorry, but I will not be reserving any for off Ebay purchase.

Boy, it's coming up fast.  I have my hotel ready to go and the dolly reserved for the weekend.  If some thing minor breaks at the track, I can't take anymore vacation than planned  (http://smile.gif)   I just got a wholesale account with an aftermarket tire and rim distributor, and I would possibly have room for one set mounted and balanced to bring on the trip if anybody would interested in saving $150 in shipping for a set.  I have also teamed up with a local Ford/Lincoln/Mercury/Mazda dealer to get any OEM parts still available for a pretty good discount.  Motorcraft parts seem to be the best mark up for them, thus I get a really good deal on that stuff.  I think this is gonna be one to remember.

Yep Cory, In less than a month and a half will be the Largest Gathering of Capri Convertible Enghusiasts In The World!!  We are expecting over 40 cars.

39 registered, But we are hoping (and expecting)that more will show up the day of the Event.

Just two items left for the B.O.C. of mine to arrive, and a couple items from others to show up.  This year we won't have a Bag-O-Crap, no, this year we have a Box-O-Crap.

For those of you who are showing up without reservations, it will be $15 and you get track time, and your food and drink (no liquor) you are entered into all of the drawings (except early entry drawings) and your first T-shirt will be $20 (vs $25) And what ever extra items there are from the B.O.C.'s.

Come-On, Come and see the specticle that is 40+ Capri's

And I thank you for your support

There is also a place in South Beloit.  Turtle something.  Woodall's has a wonderful site for searching campgrounds anywhere in the US.  It is free to use, but you must register.  It lets you do a search by distance from any city.  The problem is it returns results in any direction, so have an atlas handy.  You can check it out here:
 Woodall's RV camping search (http://www.woodalls.com/search/camp/)

I wanted to camp also, but I can't come up with another driver to tow my camper.  Maybe next year we can coordinate a Capri camping jamboree with the meet and make a weekend out of it.

And unfortunately I have some bad news, my father (who technically owns the capri) is still undecided wether or not to allow me to take the car out of state (come on... it's not   THAT far away). Hopefully he'll come to his senses and let me go. And to top it off, my guest I was going to bring, his mom sentanced him to a summer in boston with the rest of the family, so I'm going to have to find another guest hehe. Wish me luck.

Of course I know where that is.  My ex husband is from New Berlin.  He went to school at Brookfield Central.  I'd be happy to talk to your dad for you and let him know what this is all about.  Why doesn't your dad come with you?  Maybe if he realized that this is not a bunch of young kids (I'm almost 50 and have kids of my own) he'd be interested too.  I know it doesn't sound like fun going with your dad, but you could attend with an axe murder and have a good time.  You don't have an email listed so contact me at: brwneyes1@ameritech.net

Woe is me bobby.
As of August 1, new owners taking over the restaurant, I'm unemployed.
My boss and I are still looking for another location but so far 5 deals fell through.

On another note, the guy finished the new chally and delivered it today- I didn't accept it.
I drove it & it was all over the road, steering sukkked, and it was leaking ps fluid all over my driveway.
For 55K, it better be perfect.
What a time to take out a 55k loan, eight years in length, and unemployed at 53.

The last thing they would want is to be dragged over to some place in the middle of nowhere while her, and her friends watch him drive in circles real fast, be surrounded by adults, and then go to some boring picnic, full of adults OOOing and aahing about this car, and that car.  Like they would care.  Hey Prince Chuck, didn't you leave the royal family at home last year?  ha ha ha

There were rumors that I was in contact with the Indianopolis Motor Speedway for next years gathering.  Those rumors were true.

Unfortunately, we won't have the Brickyard for next year.  They wanted 1 grand and you could only do one lap at 35 mph.  No Thank You.

so next year, same bat place, same bat channel.

Don't they understand that with all the horsepower our little cars produce, 35mph is going to be tough. I was hoping to qualify for the "big" race with mine. Keep up the good work, I only wish I could make it this year.

Oh come on Matt.  I thought you were excited about it?  Come on, make the trip.  It will be a great day (Lord willing).

Where else are you going to see so many Capri's in one place.

My girlfriend thinks its just going to be a bunch of gearheading (which it may or may not be) and she isnt interested in cars too much so she'd rather not go. I dont have anybody else at this moment that is willing to go, and I'm not going to make the trip myself.

We'll see how things work out.

Next weekend:  Can you beleve it's almost time?  I'm getting so excited my mipples are pointy.
I have the trophy order in (they did them, but opposite of what I wanted, so they are doing them right this time.
I have the meat, buns, salads, grill, helpers, ordered and will be ready (I pray) when we arrive at the picnic spot.
The Box-O-Crap's are almost ready (just a couple more things to add ((I hope it all fits))

I just have to make maps and itinerary and get it all off to the printers.

I look forward to seeing everyone here NEXT WEEKEND.

There ya go, teasing me with your erect nipples again.

Oh Bob, you asked about the new challenger-
here is a copy of the email I sent to the finance company-

This is to explain why I'm NOT purchasing the 71 dodge challenger convertible.
I left him a $1000. deposit with the balance ($54000) to be paid on delivery.
I took out the loan for $40000 and took  the balance in cash out of my checking account.
Gary had a new convert  top boot on order and it was due in about 2 weeks.
So the car was supposed to be delivered complete except for the boot which I agreed to wait for.

After waiting 2 plus weeks, Gary brought it to my home on thursday.
It was leaking power steering fluid ALL over my driveway.
I drove it for the first time that day and it was all over the road, floating left and right and not driving straight.
Plus it turned very hard, it was difficult to come out of a turn and the steering was making a grinding sound.
Gary said he knew about the leak, said the seal probably dried up, and that he added some kind of fluid to stop the leaking. (Hmmm, a temporary fix at best)
So this 50,0000 car was delivered to me by the seller knowing it was leaking.
He also said all his old cars drive kinda quirky.
Well my 72 dodge challenger and my 77 chrysler cordoba drive and handle beautifully.
50K, and what was he thinking and that sent up a red flag to me.
Gary said he had a new gearbox laying around and would install it with a new seal.
That would fix the steering and driving problems, he said.
If he knew about the leak, why didn't he fix it and install the new gear box he had "lying" around in the first place?
Hey I thought a 50K car would be delivered a little better than that.

So Saturday comes and Gary calls-
"it's ready, no more leaks and handles much better"
I say come on over as I really want this car.

Well here are some of the things wrong with it ......
there were some paint drips
some chrome was not rechromed properly, it had blemishes (this I knew about)
the trip odometer was broken
the tach doesn't work
some areas of the car are not aligned properly, bad fitting
the interior is not 50K quality, the heater box looks like crap & should be repainted
no spare tire or jack
one rear wheel is shimmying
the turn signals don't work
the horn doesn't work
the wipers don't work
the car is badly out of alignment
and though it handles much better, it still floats way too much from left to right.

Gary said he had new switches on order for the turn signal & the windshield wipers and they were due in on tuesday. He also said that the windshield wipers did work before he got to my home. I don't buy that.
He said take the car, (meaning pay for it)  bring it back when the switches come in and he will take the dash apart and install them. Then he would check out the tach.
Then he said I should take the car around the corner from his shop to have it realigned.
I'm in the restaurant biz, I work 80 hrs a week and that is no way to spend my one day a week off, hanging around his shop.
Did I mention that this is a 50k car that should be delivered when everything is finished.
Or is this a fix-er-upper that you pay 50K for and then have to deal with these problems.

I said "Gary, take the car home with you, bring it to get aligned monday, pull out the dash monday night and on tuesday,  when the switches come just install them and fix the paint and tach and we can complete the deal, I can overlook the other stuff.

Gary got really really bent out of shape and screamed at me in front of several neighbors-
"I'm done with you Bill, I will give you back your $1000 deposit"
Then he jumps in the car and tears out.
There were  neighbors in their driveway next door to me and they couldn't believe how he flew into a rage.

I've emailed him that night (saturday night) trying to explain that I know he is under financial pressure, but I'm no tire kicker.
I want the car but I want it right.
Did I mention it's a 50K car, lol.
I said we can still do the deal, fix the car and fix it right. And if he doesn't want to make things right to sell me the car, give me back my deposit.

Am I wrong, should I expect a 50K car to be delivered properly?
Today he emailed me that he will bring me my deposit back tonight, which he did.
Then he relisted the car for sale on cudachallenger.com stating there was a disagreement between himself and me as to the condition the car should be in when delivered.

Here is a link to the thread, the last 2 pages tell the story-

I hope the business problems clear up for you.  Hey in Nov, I may be in FLA.

C'mon down Bro and drive a triplet.
Oops, soon may only be twins b/c several people are interested in buying the teal one.

Also, this Saturday someone is flying in from Chicago to buy the cordoba.
I have mixed feelings bout selling it though.
I really love the car but I NEVER drive it anymore. When I want to "be seen" in my favorite car, it used to be the cordoba, then I bought the first challenger, so the doba just sits there.
If I do end up with a purple convert challenger, the blue chally will suffer the same fate as the doba, not being driven.

Now owning all these cars at the same time has been a gas but I really only need 1 daily driver, that would be my black capri, and 1 classic, that would be the chally.
B/C no matter how many cars you own, you always just want to be with your favorite.
I'll give my wife the red capri so that leaves the green capri to be sold.

BTW, I hope everyone REALLY APPRECIATES all the time, effort, hard work, and money you have invested in this great event.
Kudos to you robertOH!

Honestly, I don't expect to win--I'm to cheap!!  But I've always had a thing for yellow, and the Capri is a perfect "yellow" car!  The roll bar will be the first thing to go, BTW!!

On the subject of cool paint jobs, how about this beauty??

Yep, it's a real paintjob, not Photoshopped, and you can see more of it here:

Hear Ye.....Hear Ye.....Hear Ye....in 7 days will be the largest gathering of Capri Convertible Enthusiasts in the World.

Imagine over 40 Capri's together?  There has not been a sighting of this many Capri's at the same place, since they were last produced in Australia 12 years ago.

It will be interesting if any of these followed one another on the assy line?

Weather for Saturday looks to be high of 86, low of 64 and Sunny.  Sounds like the Lord is blessing us with good weather.

Its not looking too good for me. The damn garages around here want to charge me $150 for pipe, $70 for a muffler, and $50 for labor to do a goddamn exhaust. There are no places around here that will give me a straight pipe let alone a friggen mandrel bent system.

all the cars and meeting some of the people who's names you see all the time here.  Just a great day and even the four 19 year kids I brought along enjoyed themselves very much and want to know if I will let them come with me next year.  The boys are also talking about what they need to do to my 94 XR2 to make it go faster.
Wish it was someone elses money they were going to spend.
Anyway thanks Bob for a wonderful, memerable day.

Thursday a friend with lukemia died. Friday another friend had a blood clot in his brain and died.  Friday my neighbors put their beloved dog to sleep.  Friday I found out that the raffle tickets I ordered didn't get done, and found out that the 5 volenteers I was expecting, would not be there.

Saturday I was running just a bit late and didn't get to the track until 9:00am  There were five cars already there.  After unloading the cars we started to get everyone registered.  The cars started pouring in.  33 in all.  I was busier than a one legged man in a butt kicking contest, and my friend was even busier.

When we got to the track someone was already on it.  I went and talked to the track owners and got the mess straitened up so track time was cut down.  Apparently the guy who took my reservations, decided not to put it on the calender and they double booked.  Since I had 33 cars, and they had one, we won.

Everyone seemed to enjoy just walking around and talking to everyone.  Cory had fastest lap.

The picnic portin of the event went very well I thought, considering most of the parking area I had reserved was taken.

I think logistically we did better this year than last.  There are still a few things that can be ironed out.  We had plenty of food.  I am shocked they voted my car the "ugliest"  MY CAR IS NOT UGLY.  IT WAS THE PRETTIEST ONE THERE!!!!  HA HA

Trophys were given out, and we were amazed no 92's made it to the picnic.  Had even one showed up, they would of come away with a trophy.  So we made the trophy and ribbon door prizes.

I am not sure of the count who went to the drive-in, I think it was low.  People were tired and may have underestimated how long the day would be when they originally thougt about the movie.

6 cars made it to the drive in.... 2 or 3 left after the first movie. I had fun there. Perhaps next year more will show up and we can try to reserve a whole row at the drive in.

Personally i spent alot more money than I expected, but i still had loads of fun. The fun even outweighs the sunburn I got.

It was my birthday, and there was no way in hell I would be caught dead in IL again.

BTW, sorry about all of the deaths... ...seems like you have as much luck with people as I do.

I personally like it.  I enjoy the four seasons.  I am a big fan of winter.  I'm one of those who say's the colder the better.

Spring, the hope of new life.  driving on a nice spring day when the lilacs and flowers are in bloom.  It is a feast for the nose.

Summers the top never goes up.  The sun shines, and the top is down, what a gift.

There is nothing as bee-u-T-ful as fall.  The colors, the smells wraps you in fall's warm embrace as you drive on a sunny day with the top down and the heater on full.

I'll take my four seasons anyday.

Speaking of the Fall, it would be nice to have a mini-gathering in PA in the pocono mountains in the fall when all the leaves are changing... I know of many a scenic route to cruise along with the top down if anybody would be interested in that...

I have a fan next to my bed that's on 24/7. It's been running for nearly 5 years. With just a 5 minute cleaning every month. Hottest night of summer, fan is on. Coldest night of winter, fan is on.

For all of you who received the Micro Fibre cloths, here is the cleaning instructions:

do not rinse clean (just can't do it, it's the way the material is deisgned)

wash in laundry

HANG DRY.......DO NOT PUT IN DRYER (the same qualities that make it so good at picking up dust, make it good at picking up the lint in the dryer)

I personally love these cloths,  Did you know (now I'm going to paint an ugly picture here, so those of you who are squemish you might want to stop reading right now)  that I can use one cloth to completely dry myself after a shower, hair included and I feel cleaner when I do (I think it is picking up the old skin cells) I know these are made to absorb oil, so I guess it absorbs the oils on the skin.

And now back to our regularly scheduled rant from pony

PLEASE!!!  send me copies of your photos, to Cougar1prod@comcast.net, or if you have actual pictures, email for my mailing address, and I will even pay for the postage cost!!

Many Thanks, in advance!!

Next year I,m going to stay the whole day....my brother and I had a blast! I just planned to many events for the weekend.I didn't meet half the people I wanted to meet at the gathering and made no notes on anyone's internet names. Everybody was great! There is no such thing as ..." to far to travel!"

Oh by the way, there are three t-shirts on ebay right now.

C'mon bobby, that weekend, 7/30-7/31 was my last 2 days of employment.
And yesterday, I came home from dinner with Mickey D's (my how the mighty have fallen) and when I put up the window in the red rocket I heard a loud snap, and down went the window.

Now as I'm not mechanically inclined, I won't even attempt it.
So I went into my secret parts stash, found me a drivers side motor/regulator, and brought it to the firestone shop 2 blocks away.
I also brought my factory service manual & the guy laughed, they have it all on cd's, even a capri, lol.
Charged me 125 labor, not too bad considering 5 years ago the dealer charged me 300 for a new motor/reg and 265 for labor on the black capri, but that's dealers for ya.

Billy Boy, glad to see you are still lurking around.  How is retirement treating you?  (retirement sounds better than unemployed)  I pray all is working out for you.  What was your final dedcision concerning the car (440)? Did you take the money back to the bank?  Did you find another?  Are you spending the money to help get you through "Retirement"?

The good thing about being homeless in Florida, is you won't freeze to death.

I think the rest of the members can come up with other ideas why it is good to be homeless in Florida.

Keep in touch my friend, and if there is anything I can do, let me know.

Bob, the guy bought the car back to me a second time, still plenty of problems- turn sigs, tach, window washers all didnt work.
He tells me to take the car (pay him) and he'll order the switches and new tach for it- when the switches & tach come in, he'll call me to bring back the car to his shop to install em.

I said take the car with you, when the switches & tach come in, install em and call me & we'll finalize the deal.

He screams at me- Bill I'm done with you, I will get you back your deposit, and he tears off in the car.

I got my 1000 deposit back 2 days later, and returned the 50K check to the finance company.
I really didnt need an 860 per month loan for the next 8 years.

He listed it on ebay and got 70K for it, more than the 55K I was gonna pay.
Sheet, if I kept it for 55 and sold it for 70, I'd be up 15K.

But my plan was not to flip it, but to keep it for myself.
Oh well, it's the babe that "got away" lol.

I have some vague ideas for the shirts/art for next year but what I am looking for is a line rendering of the capri - outline whatever, something without color that I can play with. If anyone has one please e-mail me, I hate hand drawing! Bob, it looks on the art that they were able to simplify the drawing of the capri, can you get ahold of that from them?

Bill, can you imagine the liability if the guy who bought it gets into an accident because of shoddy build?  You didn't want something like that on your concious.

I went to have my name added to the trophy and have to ask Dr. Bob a question.  We just came from the 4th meet and this year is 2005.
Why is last years winner( Russ) marked 2003 and the year before that(Dr. Bob)2002 and the year before that(DR. Bob) 2001?
Am I to have 2004 put next to my name?  Did a year get missed somewhere or are all the other names and dates on the trophy wrong?

Does any body realise Dr. Bob went for best car 2 years in a row to uglyest car this year.  I think we were all very hard on Dr. Bob's car.  Mind you I said the car not Dr. Bob.

Which BOV did you order? I just bought a Turbo XS type RFL. I was going to go with a HKS SSQV but I'd need a special adapter for that and it would be better if I just went with reworked IC piping (which i plan on doing when I get around to getting a good FMIC)

I just wanted to point out what a bargain the MACG is.  I read in my local paper that there was going to be a convertible group in town this weekend so I checked out the site.  Here's the link: http://www.wiautotours.com/www/wcc/index.htm (http://www.wiautotours.com/www/wcc/index.htm)

any way it sounds like fun true, but the rub is it cost $259 per registration or $249 if you are member which is another $25 per year.  We got everything they get (plus an invaluable bag-o-crap) for $45 and we get to take our cars on the track.  I'd like to give big props again to Dr. Bob for making this event historical (and sometimes hysterical; those pants Bob).  Hey Bob maybe you should contact the leaders of this club and see how they justify the cost and while your at it ask if they have any Capri's in their group. Maybe we can show them what a real good time is next year.
