Title: Dual-Stage Boost Controller
Post by: Gaz on October 29, 2016, 03:04:18 PM
So, I've got one of these: http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-DUAL-STAGE-ELECTRONIC-ADJUSTABLE-MANUAL-GAUGE-TURBO-BOOST-CONTROLLER-BLUE-/361482307858?hash=item542a064912:g:VOYAAOSwFqJWsTU8&vxp=mtr (http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-DUAL-STAGE-ELECTRONIC-ADJUSTABLE-MANUAL-GAUGE-TURBO-BOOST-CONTROLLER-BLUE-/361482307858?hash=item542a064912:g:VOYAAOSwFqJWsTU8&vxp=mtr)

What I'm thinking of doing, for a nice little light to let me know which mode I'm in, is splicing into the 'Power mode' Light in the dash, if there is one in the XR2s, I can't remember. Sounds like it'll be fun to get to, but I'm always down for an adventure.

I wanted to do exactly this. Got ahold of a really nice dual stage MBC.
Ended up setting the low boost to 14 or 16 PSI and just adjusting my driving as necessary. Found it to be an expensive novelty.

YMMV.

On my current Capri I briefly wired my overboost switch to the Power Mode light. Hit 10/11 psi - light comes on. Entertaining for a bit

So, here's my review of the Dual-Stage Boost Controller:

Rubbish. Mine could not control boost in either stage, at any time, in any configuration. I bought a Chinese one, of course, but referred to TurboSmart for installation and troubleshooting, since it's a knockoff of their design. Installation was easy, but the unit was cheap and eventually, the knobs for adjustment stuck in their respective positions. I don't recommend it.

Just go with a Hallman in-cab controller or something of the like.

Is your wastegate ported? Can you control boost with a normal boost controller?

Not yet. I have a Tbird hybrid going on that I'm porting, so I'm not going to do the stock one. But yes, I can control it with a normal bleed off tee, within reason. With the dual stage controller, it will not allow me to raise boost pressure. I'm not concerned with overboost at the moment.
