Title: subwoofers
Post by: Heavensheros on April 08, 2009, 03:42:00 PM
OK so my brother just gave me 2 10" sub woofers for free with a 300W amp not huge but its free, Were is the best spot to get the most out of these things? i have them right now in the trunk but it rattles a lot will soon be getting rid of that problem with some sound dampening stuff but is there possibly a better spot for them ?

P.S I see everyone putting them in the back seat with a bubble top. Could i get some feedback on the sound of that. Thank you - Josh

Josh-
Make sure your alternator is good, and I highly suggest using a capacitor!  The alternators on these cars barely keep up with the demand as it is.  Now add huge power drain from subs, and you have alternator failure within 6 months!!

x2 with the back seat idea, encased in a removable box. we've got one that fits snug in the back seat and also fits into the boot incase you do have to pick up a third person. pretty neat fit!

OK where would i get a bigger alternator? and what would a capacitor do ?

A capacitor is simply a big battery. It'll hold the power until it's needed by the subs.
I have no idea where you would get a bigger alternator.

I have 2 12's under my BubbleTop, and it's LOUD!! Better than loud, though, it's clear!  The sound from these are amazing. I do, however, have all top-end equipment, including Kenwood Excelon head unit and amps.
I'll try to shoot some pictures tomorrow.

By the way - If you're looking for a BubbleTop to put over those subs, there is one on eBay right now- auction #230335524946

i am in the process of making a special box on mine as well. my pics are posted in my thread. i have a POS 12 back there i got from the swapmart on a tiny amp and it sound great. my mids and tweets are top stuff but i and others can hear me coming and going. when i owned this car back in the day i had subs in the trunk. i hated the sound. top down..muffled by the top. the rear seat is a joke. thats why i got rid of mine.get russ' bubble top. you will not regret it at all..

also....if you get the dry cell battery that will help prolong life as well. the CAP is made to help keep the load off the ALT. it will sense spikes and try to keep the voltage to the AMP at a constant voltage. dont get a cheapy either. on those you get what you pay for.

Here is another dual 12s. These are rockford competition dvc subs being push by an amp capable of over 1500watts. if you know rockford, then you know they are not your typical company. incloser is hand built to fit the back seat by me. not hard to do if you can build a box.  Here is the page. Josh, don't get jealous! Just apply yourself, read alot, and spend your money in the right places, and it'll all come to you!  Your capri is in great shape, low milage, and fast as hell -
 I'm jealous!!
I bought this car exactly the way it sits - I've done nothing to it!! The previous owner did all the work on it.

Actually Russ, the previous owner did not do all the work on it, the owner before him did all the work on it.  The previous owner is still waiting for the body kit that was promised 5 years ago as part of the price for selling you the car.

Hey Russ! Sorry I didn't get to see your car while I was visiting. Sounds like the previous owner is close also. Hey Josh! where in Korea are you going? And when? I'm to get my buddies back together that I went to Viet Nam with two years ago. I wana go back to Saigon and then take a side journey to either S. Korea or into China.  Gus.

ya, i am sticking it out as long as i can..or until the really piss me off which ever comes first.

The airforce has changed so much over the years, the GI bill is awesome now. it will change again very soon and you can go to school for free now and get paid when you get out. its awesome. you can also pass it on to a family member. they are making the benefits better and better. too bad the people coming in now are not as bright as they use to be...

it's hard being a babysitter.  Let alone being a babysitter for those with a sense of entitlement.
