Title: North Carolina Spring Meet
Post by: WashiestSnake on January 29, 2017, 10:09:34 PM
Anyone up for a meet here in the spring. I have a location here in High Point and if needed we could find one that would be close to most members. I think it would be good for us as a community to come and support each other and grow friendships with those closest to us. Ill post something on the Facebook page aswell to gauge intrest there aswell.

Know what you mean.  I'm luck to have a guy who will work on mine between jobs and charges me half.  Got timing belt, water pump and a bunch of other stuff for $300.

Alright guys I'm thinking of setting the Date in October so everyone who would like to come has the opportunity to and so we all have time in advance to get our cars ready. October will be best for me to host as I'll have a week long vacation, so I'll be able yo get loads done on my car.

I haven't heard anything either, how about that Mike.  There is a Festiva meet in Raleigh this weekend.  They're a great bunch of guys and sometime some really cool cars show up.

It hasn't come up yet unfortunately. My Capri currently is out of commission while I've been working on it. I'm trying to get it back on the road but I keep having stuff come up right after each other. Once the car is reliable again I will post a date for the meet. I'm really sorry honestly I've been super busy with work and the car gets put to the side alot.

Update: As of right now I need to flush the coolant, replace the brakes all 4 sides, full new set of tires, new synthetic oil, track down what's killing the battery (think it might be the glovebox light), get the drivers seat bolt down.

Once I have all that done which if I get the time I can have it down In a weekend. A meet will be made.

Cool, I just changed to 15000 mile synthetic oil and changed the tranny fluid to Sychromesh.  I also found what was causing my battery to die.  I removed bulbs and pulled fuses and couldn't find anything.  It was the alternator.  The regulator was shorted out.  It charged fine and using an external tester, it tested normal.  When it was removed, there was the short.  Had it rebuilt locally.  It's all good.  It's really simple to test.  Disconnect the hot wire and unplug from the alternator and see if the battery is dead the next morning.  Good luck.

P. S.  I'm not planning on running the oil 15,000 miles, just wanted it to see if I burned oil over a long period of time.

Alright if all goes well and my Car is fully serviced. I'd like to make the date for a meet to be either November 11th or the 18th. Most likely I'll have it here in High Point, somewhere off of North Main Street. I absolutely hate that it's taken me this long to get my car running right again, sadly that's what happens when it sit for up to a year.

Do you have parking at your place? We could all meet there and turn some wrenches together

At my condo sadly there isn't good parking, and our Homeowner Assosciation doesn't allow car work. I've been pushing the limits with what's allowed as far. If I get caught working on my car it's a 50$ fee and after the third time they can charge whatever they want it really sucks. However where the meet will be held there's plenty of parking sense it's a closed store parking lot where car meets are generally held on Thursdays. There I don't see any reason why we couldn't wrench on them. Lack of a proper work space has really set me back quite far.

Make sure to get written permission from the property owners so if the police come by everything will be smooth.

Terribly sorry guys, my car broke down. I've spent the last couple days working on it. It appears as though the clutch slave cylinder has failed again for a unknown reason. I'm gonna try and get it going, and I'll post a date once I know for sure what the deal will be.

I am located in Greenville and would join in a NC gathering.  My wife has a 94 base model that I bought for her new.  It has been off the road for the past 7 years, but just got it inspected and registered again.

I know this thread is old-ish, but if anyone is still looking to do a meet that would be cool as hell,

Just recently discovered the capri and I'm buying a white 91 n/a 5 speed from my friend.

I am still in for a NC meet.  I will soon have a 94 xr2 in addition to our 94 NA to we would most likely drive to the event if it is within a few hours.

It's definitely gonna happen once the weather gets better. I work 2 jobs, so finding time to make things like this happen can be hard. Last few months I've had alot of unsuspecting problems creep up in my Capri, such as a misfire that I just finally got to cease.

I would be willing to host it at my house at Greenville.  Enough space between front yard and driveway to park 8-10 Capri's.  We could possibly overflow to my neighbor's yard across the street if necessary if a few more would show up. We can park about 6-7 rigs along the street adjacent to my driveway if someone trailers their car in.  We can turn wrenches, eat hamburgers and hotdogs on my deck and parade the cars out in the country to the Creamery.  It is a working dairy farm that makes their own ice cream.  Just a thought as I would like to meet some of the forum members.

I would have to take off work probably to get down there, but I totally would. I actually live in Lincolnton (about ~45 minutes from Charlotte) so it'd be a bit of a drive, but based off the fact that the only other 90s capri I've ever seen was a beat to shit red 91 that passed me on the highway, it'd be nice to see some better examples

I would absolutely like to meet with other members over Capri's.  Would like to see something like Festiva Madness.  That's a lot of fun.  I'm in Mount Airy, north or Winston-Salem, so it would be a long haul for me also.

OK...I understand the drive.  I just wanted to throw out an idea to see if we can get something pulled together.  If someone has a more mid-state location that would work, please chime in.

I'm good with making the drive, just a little worried... I'm slowly creeping up on 247,000 miles and I'm not sure if it'd make it down there and back lol.

I really need to get a rebuild kit...

I'm in High Point JDP what you're suggesting does sound very cool. My Capri isn't in the best shape this last year have been terrible for it (it sat for nearly a year and it killed the paint). I sweat everytime I fix something on this car another issue comes up, I let my father use my car and he came back and my rebuilt window Regulator has failed, and my driver door pull was torn off the doorpanel. I sweat these cars weren't made to last. BTW ff any of you B.C. locals need parts, I can get them through my job for alot cheaper then RockAuto, and Autozone, depending on the part. I would be willing to cut you guys a deal on stuff if I made a little profit. Shipping would have to be on you guys though, or if you wanted me to bring it we could work that out aswell.

All our Florida meets were accomplished with one person making them happen.  Getting a consensus on dates and locations seems reasonable, but someone will always complain.  Saturdays seem best, lean toward early afternoon.  Offer a small souvenir if you can.  Plan next years event to be better, but plan on it being a one person in charge show forever.  There just aren't enough proud Capri owners to approach clubs like miatas or mustangs, so small it will always be.  Just my 2 cents...

Thanks for the advice blueamber.  My invitation will remain open indefinitely and to anyone is heading to eastern NC anytime, please ping me.

I would really like to meet some of you that are local to NC.   I have a 94 NA that I bought for my wife new that I am wanting to preserve and I pick up a 94 xr2 in a couple of weeks that I plan to preserve.  I just bought a 93 NA parts car and I am on the lookout for a 94 parts car (good front and rear body wise, don't care about drivetrain). Once I recover from buying the XR2s, I will be looking for most any parts car so hopefully I will be in position over this next year to do some part swaps.  The 94 xr2 is a package deal with a 92 xr2.  The 92 xr2 needs paint, but runs pretty good....it may become my "play" car rather than become a parts car.

Ideas....Maybe we could meet (drive or haul them!) at the rest stop along I40 at Burlington or even a Walmart parking lot near Greensboro and then drive to a lunch location.  I will be pretty flexible since my overall desire is to strengthen a network of us locally to keep our machines alive.
