Title: Static Headlight Fabrication.
Post by: Gaz on September 03, 2015, 11:01:14 PM
So, I'm sick of rebuilding those god damn headlight motors...So I'm designing a static headlight assembly using an H4351 and a 3" projector. It will be wrapped in a resin or sheet metal for cleanliness, then painted to match. I'm collecting data currently and getting prices, but it will be great in the end. It should look much more organic to the Capri when I'm done with it.

coupled with an H4351 housing with a higher end LED in it.

Shit will be groundbreaking and what not, so stay tuned.

Sounds very interesting.

You can also get those exact same projectors from amazon for $59 and they’re only 2.25 inch, the led ring is 3 inch.
http://www.amazon.com/iJDMTOY-Universal-Projector-Light-40-SMD/dp/B00EYK56TC/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1441378037&sr=8-1&keywords=universal+fog+light

So are you planning to replace the OEM fog lights with the projectors in the link you provided? Then install the H4351 with a led bulb where the stock headlight goes and making them a fixed sleepy eye setup.

Or are you planning on trying to fit that 2.25 inch fog projector into the H4351 housing and using that as the headlight?  Because I don’t see that turning out well at all.

The assemblies you reference don't look suitable for headlights, unless you mount them behind a factory type lens.  They seem OK for fog lights, as is, which makes me think the output isn't enough for headlights also.  They are supposedly waterproof, but don't look it.
I think you'd be better off with a bi-xenon setup, hi beams and low beams from each lens. Also, these small lenses, when they get dirty, spread light horribly, which is why most setups are behind a clear plastic cover.
I'll be polite and not voice my opinion of angel eyes, although yellow demon eyes would be killer...

Yep, there will be a clear plastic or lexan molding over the entire assembly. The h4351 bulb will be the driving light, and whichever projector style light I chose will be a focused beam. Won't be a fog light, just threw the link in for reference. And no, the above components will only be in the area where the headlight is, in which none of the original equipment will be used.

You should check out Hidplanet.com, it’s a great website full of info on HID and led retrofits.

I have to agree with Blueamber on the dual lens setup. I see some of the dual projector J30 retrofits done on probetalk and they look beautiful.  As of late, I’ve been playing around with some 2.5” mini H1 bixenons and experimenting with making them fit inside the stock headlight bucket.

I’m curious Gaz on how you’re going to fit a projector and a H4351 lamp into the stock headlight location.

Me too. The math adds up, but I really want to just get the components in my hands so I can see what must be done. If I have to shave like five degrees from the longitudinal lines of the hood to better orient the housings, so be it.

I have been playing with the idea of modifying the hood to accept the Toyota Celica projectors. Here is what I am thinking of using....  http://www.amazon.com/Glossy-Black-Celica-Projector-Headlights/dp/B00EE6V884/ref=sr_1_114?ie=UTF8&qid=1441690586&sr=8-114&keywords=projector+headlight (http://www.amazon.com/Glossy-Black-Celica-Projector-Headlights/dp/B00EE6V884/ref=sr_1_114?ie=UTF8&qid=1441690586&sr=8-114&keywords=projector+headlight)

I'm not exactly sure what it will look like, but it could be cool.

Been there.....done that......Never finished it, though. The project is still sitting in my garage waiting for me to get off my a** and get it finished.

Something like that, but picture the outer bulb as an h4351, and the bulb plane a bit further forward than that.

I think that looks pretty good CapriTypeR, what lamps are those in your pics?

The only issues to me with that setup, is that I don’t want to lose my beloved popup lights. It’s just one of those things that are becoming rare to see now a days. Plus, I’m not allowed to do something like that to my car since it’s now registered as a collector car and the law says I must keep the body of the car looking original. It’s a small price to pay for those beautiful blue and red plates that never expire and exempt me from all emission/vehicle inspections, along with cheaper insurance too.

A thread started just a couple of days ago on Hidplant on what I have to believe are the smallest Hid bixenon projector built to date.
http://www.hidplanet.com/forums/showthread.php?64547-1-6-quot-H4-Bixenon-projectors
They’re only 37mm(1.5 inches) wide and are designed to be a plug and play replacement for H4 bulbs. Looking at the output pics on that thread, I think the output looks awesome for a projector that small. I might try getting a set and see if they’ll work in my H4 e-codes that currently have installed right now.

Honestly, I do not remember.....I do remember the were extremely expensive when I got them 6-7 years back....I'll see if I can dig them out this weekend...In the meantime, here are a couple shots I took when I got them (there are 2 different lights, per side):

As for modifying the pop-up's, that was my goal.....these were originally intended for the "Super Roo" - She already had the F-40 style wing, and the F-50 hood scoop, so I thought the F-40- looking headlights would give it more of an Italian flair than it already had (I'm a Ferrari nut...can you tell?  8) )
Seriously...how bad-ass would that front end have looked with these headlights sitting next to that scoop??  :-*

Those look pretty promising!

I am leaning towards what CapriTypeR was proposing. Seems more feasible than trying to fabricate an entire assembly. I could at least use half of that type of assembly for at least one side of it. Stay tuned. Eventually, it will be covered on my YouTube channel: Jeg, Bilmekaniker! Go ahead and check out the channel, every view helps!

Holy flaming shitballs, it's been a busy winter. I have only gotten the lights I plan to use, and that's about it. Plenty of research has happened though. Lo and behold, the best thing I've seen happen to the world of flush mounting sheeeeit: http://www.mr2beast.com/Lights.htm
