Do our cars take the standard single-stage thermostat you see in 99% of engines? Like this one: (http://info.rockauto.com/BeckArnley/1430688.jpg)
Or do they take a two-stage stat like the festivas/b3 engines take?

I know if you use a regular stat in the festivas you get pretty much no heat.

I've always replaced with the standard

Okay, I just got mine out, it was in fact a dual stage. The big side was stuck wide open. I managed to get it back closed, and boiled it in water, and both sides opened and closed fine. I dont think Ill risk putting it back in though. Ill just hold on to it. Rockauto has the dual stage motorcraft for festivas but I dont know if its the same. Ill just stick my standard replacement in.

-
i run a 160 fail-safe... i get enough heat when i want it
-
yea i run one of zxtuners thermostats (the 180)
and i get heat in the winter but you gotta let it warm up ...
-
I ran a 160...no heat...sucked. Torture in the winter. 180 is ok I'm running stock for now.
-
i wonder if thats why mine had no heat when i bought it.
-
it could have been. was the car modified when you bought it?
-
i got it from an old guy, but i think the person he got it from modified it because it had a manual boost controller on it wired incorrectly and had a cold intake. not things a old guy puts on a car.
