Title: RocketFlow VAF Adapters!
Post by: Rocketman on February 17, 2011, 04:46:00 PM
Another new product in the Rocketman lineup!

RocketFlow VAF Adapters!

These adapters provide a smooth transition between the square VAF port and a 3"ID round so you can bolt on your favorite cone filter, or run custom piping for a fenderwell intake. These fit the XR2 VAF - but may also fit the N/A, I will check.

The cheap eBay adapters fit like crap (seen in the background) they have a round hole directly on the square port. This leaves an abrupt transition which is terrible for good airflow.

These are SOLID cast aluminum adapters, made by ME in the USA! (no cheap chinese crap here)

Asking $50 INCLUDING shipping to the lower 48. No gasket included, you can use gasket-maker or seal with a *thin* bead of RTV.

There is only a very small misalignment on that one that I will be correcting before more are made.

I can grind one a bit smoother for you if you want

rocketman, do you think you might work up a version for the na capri? I know people have said that dosen't benefit the na as much as the turbo but i have been tinkering and think it definitely make a difference. Just the exhaust that i have opened up has made a major change in the get up and go! I am working through the same mods that I have always started with to improve my rides on land and water. Let me know what you think! also, what are you casting with? I make my living lately by salvaging(mostly copper and aluminum) and I could keep my eye out for high grade aluminum for you. Last year I recycled near 5 tons of it!

These might fit the N/A no problem - im trying to get ahold of one to find out. Either way I could probably come up with something for it if this doesnt work.

I have hundreds of pounds of aluminum here, I usually cast a high silicon AL, near A356 spec. I dont go through it fast with parts like these lol, but thanks!

I am however on the lookout for yellow brass & bronze, if you come across any I'm certainly interested.

I usually come across about 100 lbs a month or so during the summer when the scrap is plentiful. it is mostly electrical grade transformer yellow brass. I only have around 10# on hand right now. I like russ, have been laid off  for awhile so I use my contacts in construction to help me find good scrap for recycling to make ends meet. Let me know what you determine how the adapter might work, I would be interested in one for sure! I love to tinker and make things from scratch but the casting you do (the latches and adapters) is out of my skill level. I can only imagine how much I would have bothered you when i was moding my ski. Great admirer of your work and look forward to meeting you some day!

Thanks! I'll be at the Capri meet this summer so we can catch up then. If you're in the need of custom parts, I can quote it for ya. I too have been unemployed since 2/2010 and I'm trying to get my casting up & running to the point I can sustain myself.

As for the N/A VAF adapter: It has the same bolt pattern, but a totally different port shape. I can't believe how tiny it is! Hah. BUT- I'll be able to come up with an adapter for it. It will be a different style, but I can make it work.

Unknown ETA at this point, but I'll keep you updated!

ATTENTION !!! THIS ADAPTOR IS AWESOME !!!!!!!!!!!

here are the BEFORE pictures of the adapter that you can buy on EBAY !

notice how you can see where the air will hit on the sides and cause turbulence, this is bad because once the air is unsteady it harder to move,

not with the new adapter you get this

the air has a very smooth and clean place to go and the performance is MUCH better from that!

heres how it looks with my added touch :)

and how it looks on the car

I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS TO ANYONE !!!! WELL WORTH THE PRICE OVER THE EBAY ONE !!!

Also, the N/A VAF adapter is $35. Less complex mold = cheaper overall part

What brand/model number air filter fits well with this setup?
Title: Re: RocketFlow VAF Adapters!

A lot of folks prefer K&N filters, but there are literally thousands of filters out there to choose from that will fit. Almost any cone-style filter with a 3" pipe fitting on the end will fit, the shorter the better. Most autoparts stores carry APC universal filters, in a short and long version. Both fit, the short one fits a little better

Thanks. Looks like most of the K&N filters are between 4.3" and 6" with the 3" diameter.  Which length fits the best?
