Title: will lowered springs and struts for the 323 work?
Post by: Paul G. on October 06, 2003, 08:31:00 AM
I was looking on corksports website. Will the lowered springs for a 86-89 323 work on the capri? I know the struts are I believe the same and can work. Is there any difference in the springs? Corksport has Intrax springs that lower the 323 over 2". I wonder what that would translate to the capri height?

Anthony said above that 323 non GTX/GTR will work, best bet LX or something..

But I also think 323 GT should work atleast for turbo..

The 323 for years 86-89 struts and springs are best bet. The 323 GTX will not work due to it having a different rear end all together.

I agree, but 323 GT (FWD) should be closer?

It maybe close, the question is do you want to chance it or waste the time if you find out its not right. Most all struts and springs are either labeled for the 86-69 323 or listed for all but GTX.

I know this is an old thread, but am wondering what our up to date knowledge is on front and rear interchange of 323 struts are.  There are many more available for the 323 than for an XR2.

The Tokico Blues (Orange) that I found NOS to use with my Ground Control's are exact swaps. They were meant for the XR2 and the 323GT. Just not for the GTX for the obvious reasons.

If you can find stuff specifically for the 88/89 323 GT (not GTX) then it should be a direct fit, to the best of my knowledge.

I have a set of struts from an early Mercury Tracer (also a BF chassis) that I bought dirt cheap on Rockauto some years ago. They appear to interchange aside from some of the brake line mounting hardware. I may finally get to fit them to a Capri this year and find out exactly what the differences are

I know a thing back in the day would be to cut and hollow out the stock strut tube, and install a universal strut insert into the tube. The info might still be out there somewhere. But this may be a more viable option to get exactly what you want

I would be MOST interested in knowing which universal strut insert was used. I have recently been in touch with KONI recently about an insert but you can imagine how that conversation went. IF I had a part # to cross reference to the KONI inserts THEN we could have a better solution that at least has some rebound control. On another note...I contacted K-Sport in Germany and they manufacturer a full set of 36 way adjustable monotube coilovers. They will make them to order and take 5-6 weeks for delivery. They are not exactly cheap BUT I am going to get a set and squirrel them. Just a "squirrel" moment. Thanks for the other info. I will research it.

I want to say they were mid/late 80's VW bits. My memory from 10+ yrs ago of weird mishmash of parts is getting foggy.
You might have some luck poking around Clubprotege, there's still some gold squirreled away in there.

Post #8 and down has the pertinent info. For the front anyway. GTX rears are different than Capri but it's a jumping off point
