Title: Check Engine Light While Cruising.
Post by: alldsben on March 15, 2017, 08:35:20 AM
So as long as i have had my car after cruising in a gear at a pretty set speed my check engine light comes on but it always goes away once my speed or RPMs change at all meaning i cant get it home and check which code it gives me. i know how to check the codes on this but it is never still there. any ideas?

Try putting the car car in nuetral then have someone rev at whatever RPM the code goes on it so you can do the test when the code is active.
Am I correct that you are only scanning when its idling at a stop?

yes but it only comes on after about 5 minutes at least of cruising around 3k. it may be a difficult thing to test, ill try but im not sure if ill be able to because of neighbors and my bad exhaust leak

Odd that the ECU isn't remembering it. O2 sensor code maybe? Would pop on seemingly randomly if you had a vacuum leak somewhere and your mixture was off (such as when I had my bypass valve venting to atmosphere).

Best of luck.

Aside from replacing the 02 sensor, get a new fuel filter.

I have my o2 sensor i just need to get the new one in. i had thought vacuum because it started having issues like it was when i had a leak before so i changed all my lines and tested it again and it was not having a vacuum leak but still showing the code without saving it

I have finally changed my O2 sensor and it seems to have as of the last 15 miles or so it is fixed. hopefully my mpg is a bit higher than 18 now as well.
