Title: 92 Mercury Capri XR2 Blowing Fuse
Post by: bicbic on May 18, 2018, 06:35:47 PM
Why would my car blow the Main Fuse?  I put a new fuse in and cranked it up drove it for a few miles and then stopped and it would not crank again.  The Fuse was blown again.  Also, the other day I was using my cruise control and it got stuck and started speeding up, could this be related.  Thanks

This could be a tough diagnosis.

I don't think the speed control issue is related.

Once you start the car, does the radio work and continue to work? Best to know when the fuse is blowing. That can help narrow down the issue.

If everything works for a while then once the car is hot....cossibly the cooling fan is bad? Once the car is warm and the fan is commanded to turn on, it's blowing the fuse.

Good luck on the diagnosis.

Hmmm…..blowing the main fuse

The cooling fan is fused by a smaller 20A fuse, so it shouldn’t be that.

I would start by checking the wiring coming out of the main fuse first, some things connected to the main fuse is the alternator output and the ignition switch/system.
