looking good, like the design you came up with for the trunk, you should paint the wool primer gray so it will blend in more where the carpet does not meet. make it look just a little cleaner. great work. i put some carpet over my hump where the back seat was as well.

Thanks i live in a pretty decent neighborhood and most of the people who would steal it wouldn't go through the trouble getting past the Plexiglas box, I got a little bit more Plexiglas so i will be building an air dam, after that i don't know i usually always have a project for that car to keep me busy.

Thank you for the invite for the cruise. I wont be crusin but I will be down there watching Fri night and Sat afternoon around 13 and Woodward.  What are your plans for the cruise. Are you and Coco reserving parking? If so do you know where?

If your not aware there is a shop at 12 1/2 and Woodward called Street Legal Customs.  After tuning so many Honda Civics, they would probably be very interested in your Capri.

If you've never done the cruise, Friday you can actually cruise.  Saturday, Woodward is such a parking lot; last year on Saturday my bud w/ a 67 Riviera averaged one mile per hour.  People actually start cruising today, with the number gradually increasing to Saturday.

I'll keep an eye out for your car. 13 and Woodward is the unofficial epicenter with displays from Chrysler and GM, as well as various vendors.

just ebay search 27x7x2.5 intercooler kit and you should find what you need. and it will be a project to do intercooler with the ac, i found that the condensor ( i think thats what it was got on the way.

Post by: Gostlrs on September 10, 2009, 12:58:00 AM
you will have to bring both pipes to the drivers side or make a bendy pipe the same as the stock one. there is not much room on the passenger side.
Title: My Capri
Post by: Heavensheros on September 10, 2009, 03:23:00 AM

drivers side the 3in hole saw worked fine...

passenger side...i had to use those sheetmetal shears and cut out some extra parts..i got lucky..the install went pretty easy. getting the bumper off was the hardest part for me

man all this talk of new turbos makes me SO BAD want a new one ...

I also seem to be having a problem with mine i think.

When i boost it goes real quick to 18 pounds then right away to 15. I don't think it is suppose to do that
Title: My Capri

count me in to buying it from you !! unless between that time i find a different one but i would love to put in a bigger turbo. looking to put a decent sized one that has bigger input and output instead of the 1 3/4 stock

what boost gauge are you using? a cheap gauge will be like that...
Title: My Capri
Post by: Heavensheros on September 14, 2009, 05:09:00 PM
im using the one that advanced auto-parts sells. and i would like a list of some possable turbo options with bigger inlet and outlet than stock one and also more power.
Title: My Capri
Post by: Rocketman on September 14, 2009, 05:13:00 PM
he's probably seeing massive boost spike. sounds like a textbook case
Title: My Capri
Post by: Heavensheros on September 14, 2009, 05:17:00 PM
i might be having that idk the boost ran at an even 16 or 17 before the intercooler
Title: My Capri
Post by: Gostlrs on September 14, 2009, 06:40:00 PM
with a cheap gauge and cheap MBC you can see that.

its why i have been holding off on getting what i really want for my car..

i am going with the AEM Tru Boost gauge. its a electric gauge and electric boost controller in one unit. its even cheaper then if u buy those separately about 250
Title: My Capri
Post by: rcicustoms on September 27, 2009, 12:02:00 PM
it has nothing to do with the guage or the MBC...
he is seeing boost spike, due to the puny little wastegate hole in the vj14 hotside, it cant initially get rid of enough exhaust and spikes til the hole size catches up. its common as hell, if you want you can turn the boost down just a tad. or you can just not worry about it ive run over 20 psi with stock injectors on the vj14 and 14/11 HBD.. its not gonna hurt your car to spike a bit.. but it is an annoyance...to defeat this you can remove your turbo, and pull the center section from the hot side, and take a stone or a carbide and wallow out the wastegate hole a little... just dont go so big that the flapper wont cover the hole anymore that would be bad... if it were me i wouldnt do anything to it.. its just creep and if your only creeping to 17 and then leveling off. your not hurting your engine. 15-16-17psi is where the power is made with a vj-14/11 turbo anyway... when you get to 21-23 lbs on that turbo you can blow stuff up...
besides over 17psi your heating air and losing power anyway...16psi is the sweet spot, but a psi under or over isnt gonna kill it..
Title: My Capri
Post by: rcicustoms on September 27, 2009, 12:29:00 PM
oh and russ, with a hotside that big, im not too worried about your boost power surge, thats not gonna come on till 5,000 rpm.. you see with a turbo that big, lag and too much boost become factors... pushing that much air CFM means actually running less PSI also WATCH YOUR TRANNY
if you have a clutch that can hold it, you can break the gears to bits, with what that turbo is capable of... oh and GET A WIDEBAND that reads numbers guy.. you need to know what your afr is at all times with BIG turbos... other than that just remember im still running compression #s...
your running a 7.9-1 compression...
im running 9.2-1 compression ... without turbos on our cars mines gonna be quite a bit faster
so with turbos ...we'll see... oh and i got a new toy more recently too...

ment to say whats hidden inside my box ... oops lol

Yes that is a fan on top ... i will be adding in another one on the bottom bhind the passenger ... smaller an 80mm fan but that will be in front of my battery when i move that so it will help cool things down in there.

i was going to move my battery there as well but decided to put it in the rear when i do it. most tracks want it there and a kill switch once you get to a certain level. not sure if this car will see it but just in case. and the way i built my shelf's back there it has a perfect spot for it

just an fyi on your belts. You do know they need to go over a tie bar thats about even with the slots right? If not and you get into a wreck (hope it never happens to you) those seat belts will pull downward on your spine in a severe way compressing it. Just wanted you to know.

I have been thinking of pulling my back seats as well but still on the fence about it.

thanks for the tip ... i did not know about that ... i will look into trying to fab up something that will fit in the back with what little room i have.

basically right now there for aesthetics. usually only where the lap belt i figure if i get into a crash in this car im screwed either way

no problem

just wouldnt want you to get hurt over something no one told you.

I am sure there is something you can come up with that will make them safe and functional.

kinda like this ...just so that, "foward force" is not turned into "downward force" in an accident....

you can secure them to the chassis where the back seatbelt bolts in, but this all but kills the rear seat space for things like subwoofers or groceries... your seats are not strong enough (if the belts are secured under the seats) to keep from being pulled through by the seatbelts (or harnesses)under forward force.. this can break your back in a bad wreck from the front...

great example Joe. as long as they can clear that new box you made go with it. if not, I would make the new box work with the seat belts. your safety is far more important than being heard.

Ok so after further review i have fixed the problem while keeping the speaker box and keeping everything looking good like it should. here are some updated pics.

Bolted down to the old seat belt bolts so they are nice and strong

The slot will soon be cleaned up with some metal outline to protect the wood and the seat belt

The finished look !!!

Also cut away at the old panel and that area is where the new optima dry cell battery will go when i do the battery relocation.

better, but is that wood, that the box is made of strong enough? so that in an accident it wouldnt crush and defaultly loosten up the harnesses a bit.. like would the speakerbox slide forward in an accident? loostening the belts??

i dunno maybe, it is, but safety comes first!!!
Title: My Capri
Post by: Heavensheros on November 01, 2009, 02:42:00 PM
the belts are tight down the the bolt that they are bolted down to ... when i tighten the belts they are tight because of the belt .. the wood is strong and wont crush and the box is in place tightly because of the roll bars and weight. if slammed on the brakes to test the box and it does not move.

Post by: Heavensheros on November 01, 2009, 02:44:00 PM
the box does its job by hold the seatbelts back. i used very strong oak planks for that job i will also be putting metal around those slots to improve looks and functionality

yes, its the cars fuse.. incase thares a short in the engine compartment or chassis..i dont need a fire... its a 100amp blade fuse... the fuse in the power wire is the amplifiers fuse its a 60amp cyliner fuse from rockford fosgate..

i used the spare mounting bracket as a ground point...
i used to use 80 amp cylinder fuses for the car... but in the winter when it takes a few cranks it will pop the 80amp ones...

y put the fuse inline with the ground???

well thares already alot of resistance from the battery to the starter..beings thares 8ft of cable between the two.... putting a fuse even a big one in makes for too much resistance... it dosent really matter where the fuse is.. if it shorts, the point of most resistance is gonna have a meltdown...  ive accidently touched a ratchet across the batt.terminal in the engine compartment a couple times and it pops the fuse every time....

really to be racecar legal, i should have a solinoid inline from the batt. to the starter and alternator.. so that its not live all the time...

my car loves the winter garage :) she told me she didnt want to slide into a pole or get eaten away by michigan salt :) im keeping her young :)

Also decided that i will be making all of my intercooler piping black for a 2 tone ... plan on using black exhaust wrap and the black exhaust wrap paint... that should keep the under hood temp from getting into them pipes...

also the paint that i used on the exhaust manifold advertises that it will insulate it so that the manifold wont get hot enough to leave skin behind also taking down under hood temps

the next big project is to get 2x 3slot hood vents in the back to really help with underhood temp.

was thinking vents just like this

Title: My Capri
Post by: rcicustoms on December 18, 2009, 06:36:00 AM
ok josh,  please...
Dont take this the wrong way, your thinking and
thats a good thing ... but your getting ahead of yourself...

on an n/a car yes, wraping an intake to keep it from heat soaking... ok..

on a turbocharged vehicle your talking about an air pump driven with exhaust gas.. the pump is already hot.. then, when you compress air into a "charge" your creating heat anyway...

this heat generated by the charging process is the reason you run a front mount intercooler on your car...
if you can dump mass quantities of heat.. you can then turn the boost up yet still be at a resonable temperature...
(when driven hard the turbo side of the intercooler will actually get hot to the touch)

what im trying to say, without sounding like a prick.
is that your wrapped pipes, are actually keeping your 200* engine from heating up your
200* pipes... and at speed when airflow becomes a factor, your actually locking the heat in from the cooling airflow...
Aluminum is actually the best stuff here, becuase it dissapates heat more rapidly than anything else...

the only way to turn the heat down so to speak is to run a larger intercooler or experiment with water meth...

as for asthetics it looks good ...

do understand, to all his own,
but i want you to learn..so im gonna let ya know..

  be good.. joe..
Title: My Capri
Post by: Heavensheros on December 18, 2009, 07:18:00 AM
ok thank you ... the only reason i got the wrap was because it was rather cheap ... the wrap does look good and thank you for that ... i hope keeping the pipes wrapped doesnt hurt the car if so i can unwrap and just paint the pipes black.

ps. wouldn't the exhaust wrap keep my one pipe protected from the high heat produced from the exhaust manifold.
Title: My Capri
Post by: rcicustoms on December 18, 2009, 12:16:00 PM
yea, to an extent .. remember airflow.. at 60 mph that external heat from the exhaust just goes out the back of the engine compartment...

now the vents you were talking about, in the hood... will help to remove heat in a noticeable way.. i have my hood vented and the difference was noticeable..
another thing if you like the looks of the scoops or vents then go for it ...
if not let me know, and ill show ya how to vent the engine compartment without modification to your hood...for a stock look...

be good ...Joe Cote...
Title: My Capri
Post by: Heavensheros on December 18, 2009, 04:58:00 PM

ahh got it..
Title: My Capri
Post by: rcicustoms on December 19, 2009, 11:41:00 PM
you got it ... my internet crashed and i couldnt tell yall what was going on..

josh you nailed it on the head... if you bend the lip over an inch or so and put the rubber trim back on, only at a 90* facing back..
it creates an air vent about 1-1/2 inches tall and a little over a foot wide...

water does not get in becuase the hood overlaps the "trauth" so to speak, where the window wiper
linkage is ...

this allows all excess heat to exit out over the windshield... and unless you show them, most people dont even notice its done....

So what scoop style serves the best?

one that allows air to come in
  (http://z.about.com/d/cars/1/0/L/8/1/jf_08wrx_HoodScoop.jpg)

or the old school that allows air to go out?

Title: My Capri
Post by: Heavensheros on December 21, 2009, 03:46:00 AM
i like the one that lets air out because letting air in also lets water in and dirt in and other things a lot easier
Title: My Capri
Post by: rcicustoms on December 21, 2009, 09:18:00 AM
there for two different applications...
one is to bring air in, for a specific purpose  ie.. to cool an intercooler, or for ram air...
wheras the other is designed to evacuate heat rapidly...

the second one "cowl hood" is popular among musclecar tuners becuase of the massive heat created by running high compression 8 cylinders..
the heat needs to be evacuated or the engine can overheat...

a trick i learned from some mustang buddies... to make a spacer, to lift your hood at the hinge at the back of the hood... so when the hood is closed the front is closed, but the back of the hood is raised an inch or so allowing a rather large gap for all the XS heat to escape....

good idea, but A) looks kinda goofy...B)it rains right in...

so i got to lookin at the twin wall that ford used on the capri and i thought hey instead of moving the hood up lets move the firewall down..
Title: My Capri
Post by: Gostlrs on December 21, 2009, 11:46:00 AM
so use both styles and get the both of both worlds..

280zx turbo hood scoop for intake ram air

then the raised  one for the heat.....

thats what i been thinking about

If your talking about the vacuum line that comes of the break booster, theres just a one way valve in the metal part.
Title: My Capri

the oneway valve seems to be in the rubber hose ... is that important ?
Title: My Capri
Post by: Rocketman on December 22, 2009, 09:44:00 AM
Yes its very important - without it you will get erratic braking. If you're switching hoses, you can cut the valve out and stick it into the new hose. Note which way it faces when you take it out so you can get it right when you put it back in

Title: My Capri

it was the hose that went from the intake manifold to the one thing bolted to the side of the intake manifold.
Title: My Capri
Post by: rcicustoms on December 23, 2009, 10:32:00 PM
that silver thing on the side of your intake is your IAC or idle air controll valve..

coolant flows out of the head, and through the IAC.. and from the temp of the water regulates your idle to warm up the engine ...

funny part is ive forgotten that hose before too... its just so, out of sight out of mind...

ok so today i was finally putting coolant into my car ... everything is bolted in and rweady to go .... car not started put fluid in the radiator and there is coolant pouring from the back of the engine ... intake manifold looks dry ... what could it be leaking ... see all hoses clamped and tight, dont know what it is >.<

EDIT: Found loose bolts that i forgot to tighten on the intake manifold ... would that be the cause ?

seriously, what you need to do, is sit down either after the meet at dinner, or the night before with a notebook.. and when myself, russ, and matt, start rambling about technical specs and how we did shit.. you need to be writing as fast as you can write.. hell bring a tape recorder if you want...

josh, your the kid man... you cannot escape it.

matts not a whole lot older, but his mind decieves his age,
russ is the old fart of the
(modify the crap out of a capri club)
and he knows more than he lets on .. im somewhere between russ and matt.. (closer to matt in tech i think, but closer to russ in age)

and very note worthys are.. jaime (gost), fred (icurunnin), cory (cococustoms), cory (pmpsht)
anthony (ste) bryan (bryanknight) bhazard, ect.ect. (sorry if i missed you its not intentional)

and lately looking to maybe make the push for the old fart spot, mark (blue 93)
(sorry mark im not sure whos older you or russ...)
and we cant forget papa gus... hes like the elder wiseman and far supercedes the old fart of the group runnings.. (i respect him greatly)

the point is, your the kid.. and are modifying what seems to be weekly, a nice 91... your making mistakes that we made many cars ago.. and your choosing to make them on our beloved capri..
which is awesome...

but is also "give him a little shit" worthy...

like the fact you have officially built the reddest capri in the world...

dont take it to heart..
were here for ya every step of the way.. and the shit will cometh through all the steps...LOL

hell look at russ he gives everyone shit...
(his real name is "russ "shit talker" carlson")
you just gotta give it back to him to show him the love...

as your gonna get for being the pup...

so bring the notebook ,cuase when me and matt (and the others) start in, your gonna want to take some notes... and lots of pictures...

Joe, 30 years young... RCICustoms...

Nice gauge panel!

Btw, I think I am older than Russ, but let's cut out the SSA shit, okay?  I been rode hard it's true, but I'm healthy.

Someday I'll have money for the Porche Carrera Cabriolet, but for now, this is the longest car attachment of my life - 6 years, 2 Capris and plans to grow older in them.

I like my '94 XR2 and would like to thin the fleet, but my girlfriend won't let me sell the '93, so I think I'm in for the long run as a collector and showman...

I hope you "youngsters" can stand it.

key less ignition is nice, but i think you need some way to secure it, maybe a removable key that acts only as a relay switch. someone sees this video that isn't a nice person, you might have to say goodbye to the car.

Post by: Heavensheros on April 23, 2010, 12:31:00 PM
key is at the license plate, removable external battery cut-off switch cuts off the battery and unless you break into my trunk and convertible trunk to rewire my 0 gauge wire ... car has no power ... took out the problems with that by running a direct battery feed to clock and radio so i do not reset radio and clock every time i leave car unattended :)  will post pics of battery move also realized i don't think i have any pictures of that

Thats gonna kill your code pulling ability as well. The ECU will dump them when battery is disconnected for that long.

I seen them set up with toggle switches...like 3 of them under the dash and some added security

Title: My Capri
Post by: Rocketman on April 25, 2010, 05:35:00 PM
IIRC its wedged way under the dash, there are a couple modules under there actually. Check your FSM it should point you to it

I'd pull the bulb for it. Its pretty easy to pull the gauge cluster out.
Title: My Capri
Post by: Gostlrs on April 26, 2010, 02:02:00 AM
hell he had everything out already.

removing the bottom bits are easier the the dash when things are painted...a lot easier to chip the dash and harder to paint then the console,

all u need to do is electrically disconnect it. i think u can get it from the sides with the kick panels out

Post by: Heavensheros on April 26, 2010, 03:44:00 AM
well i found the airbag backup and the airbag diagnosis module when i unplug them i at least get rid of the blinking airbag light ... there are 2 computers into the dash that i don't know what are to ... there is on that is in the front at a 45 degree angle with a clear/yellow plug and on in the center that is hanging that is a gray box with a gray plug. i unplugged both and still have an airbag light. what are they because without them the car still runs fine.

ICURunnin ran 390's and had issues running pig rich.

I'd recommend against it.

If you're running VJ14 or 11 compressors the stock injectors will cover either to 16PSI.

i believe XR2 are 300CC

Post by: Heavensheros on April 28, 2010, 06:40:00 PM
well my car is showing all the signs of leaning out along with a wide band telling me she is leaning out also occasional spurts at high boost did osme research and the automatic 2g ran 390cc injectors so im going to go to the pick in pull and see if they have one.

or possibly the injectors are going bad so i will replace anywho or fuel pump just doing a full fuel upgrade to be safe and allow for future mods. doing the fuel pump rewire finaly now that i know how and gona try those injectors and possably a lph255 pump
Title: My Capri

Nope...i told you they are 450CC

http://members.shaw.ca/costall/1000Q/answers-specifications.htm (http://members.shaw.ca/costall/1000Q/answers-specifications.htm)

scroll down midway....stay away from the 1G ones...You can get a set off craigslist or ebay cheap.

i just got some free injectors off of a mx-6 2.0L turbo are those injectors bigger than ours and will they swap ?
Title: My Capri
Post by: Gostlrs on April 29, 2010, 02:19:00 PM
If they are high impedance they should..

450s is your magic number...can handle up to 18psi with good pump and FPR no problems. 275hp range
Title: My Capri
Post by: Rocketman on April 29, 2010, 06:41:00 PM
The MX6 turbo would have been the F2T engine which was 2.2L

IIRC the injectors are the same size as ours EDIT: F2T injectors are 330cc stock are 300cc

Jamie keep in mind 450cc's are no benefit to those using the stock ECU, unless they are tuned down to 300cc-ish levels. A RRFPR might be useful here but honestly you shouldn't be running lean on a VJ14
Title: My Capri
Post by: Gostlrs on April 30, 2010, 12:39:00 AM
he has your chip....and add a fpr and he should be good to go
Title: My Capri
Post by: Heavensheros on April 30, 2010, 08:03:00 AM
so those inectors would be a 30cc increase ?? i think that would be enough to help me out with my small leaning out plus the rewire.
Title: My Capri
Post by: Rocketman on April 30, 2010, 08:51:00 AM
Quote
he has your chip....and add a fpr and he should be good to go
Yes...and he should not be running lean at all with the chip, *especially* on a VJ14

I haven't been able to tune for larger injectors yet. I cannot locate the constant in the code that tells the program what flowrate they are.
Title: My Capri
Post by: Heavensheros on April 30, 2010, 01:37:00 PM
well right when i hit max boost 16psi the car will have a quick sputter and afr is 15 then it jumps to 10-11-12 depending i rewired fuel pump today and i noticed a difference ... i touched stock connection of fuel pump and then when i touched the fuel pump to wire directly at battery i could hear the faintly the pump kick on so possibly when i moved batter to the boot i gain more resistance to the pump giving me a voltage drop ... havnt taken on a test drive yet but idle went fron constant 15.8±.2 to now a constant 14.9±.2 will see what happens when i take her on a test drive.

the kind i was going to get..i had found one that measured 1 in smaller then the hood so it would of went across the whole hood..

i prefer this style. the screen vented ones introduce water into the engine bay.

I recall a Capri-owner in Texas trying a scoop a few years ago.  It wasn't very large, but his cut compromised the cross braces in the hood, making the hood flimsy and eventualy compromising the paint around the scoop from opening and closing it.  I think he went to carbon fiber in the end.

Appearance, okay, but realistically for performance, idk man

Here's some good reading: http://www.clubprotege.com/forum/showthread.php?t=2921 (http://www.clubprotege.com/forum/showthread.php?t=2921)

Hoods are low pressure zones, won't really get too much ram air effect there

And water will get in with those..

the cars that have them stock normally have some routing to drain it some place...

the style i showed you allows the heat to escape and will not cause drag or let water in as easy.

There's no denying that water gets in with my hood, but I have NEVER had an an issue because of it. It is not like the under hood area is always bone-dry, either, on anyone's car, scoop or not.
I can power-wash my car, and the only water that gets in will flow between the radiator and the block, and then hits the ground.
I think it is a non-issue!

well ... while taking off the front bumper i finally found the culprit for unstable air/fuel and unstable idle and some times .... courtesy of my air bag sensor ( the mother @#%$#$ ) i have a nice hole in my intercooler piping ... whats the best way to patch that up for the time being ?

FAIL.....  :D

You installed an aftermarket wheel and never removed the sensors....Mine was a close fit there as well...i moved the sensor some when i did mine

Just put a silicone coupler over it, could even slit it down one side and slide it over the pipe
Title: My Capri
Post by: Heavensheros on May 15, 2010, 04:40:00 AM
thats what i did ... the clamp was big enough to cover the hole completely so i cut a chunk out of a silicone coupler to cover hole then clamped the whole ...
P.S Rocket i shortened up the wastegate hose and fixed that hole ... car runs night and day now ... when building boost she builds really fast but STOPS and HOLDS rock solid at 16 PSI no gain no loss all the way to red line !!! :) !!!

new steering wheel

sideview
 (http://i576.photobucket.com/albums/ss205/Tatur_salad/0420001117a.jpg)

to install all i did was buy the hub for the steering wheel and filed down the inside until the hub fit snug around the steering collumn then coated the inside of hub with JB weld* and it fit on tight then screwed down. fits VERY TIGHT and has been strength tested in driveway under 150 ft.pounds and the steering wheel did not budge.

bumpers

the back bumper and front bumper will be getting new paint to match car.

you cant see it but i do have a bar for the seatbelts right behind the front wall of box for seatbelt support. under heavy braking the box would tent to lurch foward do to that its all on hinges for easy access so i added the chains that are bolted to the back seat rest plate were amp and capacitor are mounted to. it is very strong and i no longer have a problem with that box moving. holds rock solid and everything is safe !!!

Got started on the intake today from the idea of RCI !!! did mine a little bit different of course as to always try and change things up a little bit to add my little bit of taste to it

The fresh canvas ( without a battery in the way it leaves ideas to be very different.

the general idea of what it is going to be.

Metal has hole in it and sealed to make a good seal in box for a good ram air setup

Hole in the car where tube will go. !!!

The start of the SPECTRE *tm tube. there will also be a SPECTRE funnel to cofer the whole fog light whole and help funnel more air into the 3" tube

under the car were tube runs ( i will be screwing up a metal sheet to protect the tube )

Tube coming through hole into the engine bay.

The half way finished product

Soon to come i will be finishing up the box and making it sealed up and then painting it black with a good heat resistor paint to reflect heat away from it.
Also if i ever get a vent on my hood i will then put the vent on the hood above that box to help with cooling ....

Many other ideas to come with cooling under my hood .

just rewired the amp. bridged the sub woofers on one channel and the 6x9 on another channel and sounds a lot better !!! going to be getting another 4 channel amp for the front of the car. will be running component speakers, door soeaker and tweeters above the speaker on one channel and then another set of tweeters on the A-pillar.

the next project will also be taking out the bumper guards off the car and making the front bumper able to quick remove like RCI did. i really like the idea especially since while showing off the car today she spiked to 18psi and the hard pipe finally fell off the coupler lol and i thought of RCI

Mazda MPV is sposed to be like 10 more amps or so.
Title: My Capri
Post by: Rocketman on August 30, 2010, 12:31:00 PM
MPV uses the same 70amp alt we have IIRC

Early build Capri's used a 85amp alternator, but the connectors on the back are different and it used a different bolt.

A lot of alternators are surprisingly interchangeable, spend some time at the junkyard if you can. A lot of GM alternators are 100+ amps
Title: My Capri
Post by: azgtx on August 30, 2010, 12:31:00 PM
89 RX7 has 85 amps and will work on the B6T. Make sure you get the bolt for the RX7 and use the pulley from the 323(or Capri in this instance).

Brad:

From Rockauto's site:

REMAN; 1st Prod; AMP 85
REMAN; 2nd Prod; AMP 70

They didn't use a 60amp on the capri. The 323's all got 60amp alternators, but the connectors are different.

I think I remember hearing about using RX7 alternators with minor mods...

Instead of paint go with a black vinyl or a carbon fiber vinyl for it.

with the thickness it will be forgiving on the places where the parts meet and could match up with the seats really nice...

ive kind of hit a road block as to what i am going to do ... the top of the box is a little foward of the bubbletop and i want it to be sealed ... what it looks like i will be doing is cutting a peice that will sit 30 degrees and go toward the bubble top and that 3 inch tall strip from box to bubble top at 30 degrees will have 4 tweeters that will angle 30degrees so the sound will hopefully travel around to the front.

3 speakers in each door?
Title: My Capri
Post by: bobbynahas on November 16, 2010, 03:14:00 AM
Joshua, Thats a lil overkill on the doors. thats a lot of fiberglass or a lot of wood, either of which will be pretty heavy on these doors. If you went with a expensive series of 6 or 6 1/2 components with a quality amp you would be happy. PPI makes a great 4 channel, so doses jl Audio. Ive ran these amps for over 20 years. They were great when i was a kid and have only had improvements since. Boston or MB Quarts make real nice components. My girl has a caddy srx with a 12 inch w0 a jl mono 250, all mbQuarts and a PPI 5 channel. Its a lil overkill but sound unbeleiveable. If you need any insight on that im around the corner
Title: My Capri
Post by: Heavensheros on November 16, 2010, 11:04:00 AM
well i already have one component set in the stock doors and the other 2 will be fiber glassed in the door and will not be that heavy. all the speakers are 50watts each and will all be ran on a 400 watt 4channel amp.
Title: My Capri
Post by: Gostlrs on November 16, 2010, 04:43:00 PM
I had a set of 7in separates and good set of 6x9s in the rear in a box running off a 2ch amp @ 2ohms with 300 Watts RMS....Plenty for what you need....

Don't waste the money on 4 channel amps. You only need them if you want to have fader control. Look for what a amp puts out at 2Ohms RMS and match that to your speakers.
Title: My Capri
Post by: Heavensheros on November 17, 2010, 07:43:00 AM
i already have the 4 channel amp. it was a rockford p400-4 its msrp is 350 and i got it new with 2 year warranty for 150
Title: My Capri
Post by: Gostlrs on November 17, 2010, 03:02:00 PM
Here is the P400-4 ratings (4 Channel)
50 Watts x 4 @ 4-Ohms
100 Watts x 4 @ 2-Ohms
200 Watts x 2 @ 4-Ohms Bridged

Here is the P400-2 ratings(2 Channel)
100 Watts x 2 @ 4-Ohms
200 Watts x 2 @ 2-Ohms
400 Watts x 1 @ 4-Ohms Bridged

Both have the same MSRP. Now if you bought the 2 channel amp and ran it bridged at 2OHMS you would get 100 more watts for the same price. The reason why I say 4 channel amps are a waist. To get the same power output you need to spend more

Can you please tell me what kind of sound deadener are you'e using ?

Have you had experience with it ?   How well does it work, how much, etc ?

I've never had much luck with sound deadener actually deadening any sound.

LEft to right, Rockford fosgate 4AWG wire, Shitty 0ga i bought last year when i relocated batter, and good 0AWG welding cable, this is the roots of my electrical problems, buying all new wire to run for main power

got some more done today, got my mid bass drivers in the mail today boxes cut ready to be assembled ( didn't have any glue ) and got 2 coats of bondo on the pods and somewhat sanded

im very pleased with the speakers since i paid 35 a piece for them, the rubber surround is very soft and does not have a very strong suspension but i did a couple free air test and no problems should sound good once in the box, box will be .27 cu/ft before displacement of speaker

those panels arent map pockets anymore !!! :)

the pods aren't SUPER thick but very strong don't move a bit but once they get cut open i will be soaking in some more resin where the cloth didn't soak all the way through and then one more coat of glass to finish her off.

more updates as they come, hopefully not to much longer till shes done

well right when im about to to do some work on my car i get stricken with plague ... uhg but feeling better now and it starts to snow but heres whats going on the Capri, took the stock one out and MAN does the engine bay look ALOT better

the old

The new

old vs new, each fan moves 1500 CFM so that will be 3000 total CFM dont know what stock is but hopefully these work better than stock, will be mounted in the bumper as pushers not pullers

the seabelts mount in the back where the stock back seat belts bolted to and the roll bar was just 2 peices of muffler pipe i had bent and then welded 2 muffler flanges to the bottom of them and then sat into the car, they actually did not bolt into the car they were held with some hidden latches behind them that bolted to my back speaker box, i have them but dont use them anymore.

ok so i did some more work to the car today, some little things but they make a difernece,  first i fixed my windsheild wiper motor so now my wiper blades dont stop mid eye sight, what a relief, then i changed my tstat and here are before and after pics for Rocketman

before after driving for about 30 minutes
 (http://i576.photobucket.com/albums/ss205/Tatur_salad/IMG_20110302_162613.jpg)
after, after driving for 30 minutes, now my car runs a little better and seems to be running more lean at idle/cruise maybe ill have better fuel now HAHA

i got around to also doing my rear speakers there now in i dont have a pic of the speakers in but i will soon, here is a comparison of the door speakers and the rear speakers

rear(right) is an 8" midbass woofer door speaker (left) is a 7" midrange speaker

i also am working on getting rid of my hood rattle and cleaning her up a bit with some sound deadner ( good up to 500 degrees ambient heat)

also painting the hood clip (or what ever its called)

paint is 500 degree engine enamal then will coat with a clear lacquer so it should be able to hold up to the use of the latch.

and thats all she wrote

ok got the hood done and HOLY #@$! it sounds like a brand new car!!! i used silicon for the seams, sound deadner for the hood area and then filled the braces with exspading foam, it added probably 2 lbs to he hood so it doesnt make a difference in weight but it sounds AMAZING !!!

and here a vid
  (http://i576.photobucket.com/albums/ss205/Tatur_salad/th_VID_20110303_183725.jpg) (http://s576.photobucket.com/albums/ss205/Tatur_salad/?action=view¤t=VID_20110303_183725.mp4)

also i got a chance to take a picture of my wire up front

thats 0AWG welding wire one goes to the back where the battery is the other is connected to the alternator and then the third wire goes to the second distributor block

both blocks and the wire

thats 0AWG from the other block and 2 4AWG wire one goes to the fuse panel and the other goes to the starter, everything is welded and heat shrunk for best results, i dont have a picture of the grounds but on the Passenger side i have a 0AWG ground from strut mount to engine block and on driver side i have a 2/0 AWG wire going from frame to tranny case.

Maybe I'll pick one up at the junkyard sometime. I don't know your set up but the first time I was looking at your pictures I noticed the plastic vacuum line going to the drivers side on intake. Is that for your boost gauge? I was told to run mine to the passenger side nipple vac hose. If it is the for the boost was wondering if it makes a difference. Mine reads correct on vac & boost. Thanks, Rob

Any nipple on the plenum will work correctly, except for the one or two on top that go to the distributor.

The pass side works well because a lot of people disconnect the boost cut switch, opening up room

I've only seen two driving, a black & grey one so there's not much competition either. I need to sell a few on eBay. Got my original ECU if anybody needs one. Remember it's my driver so I had to go junkyarding to send mine to Rocketman. Theres another ECU @ the yard now also ssoooo?thanks though, I always know you have what I might need. Rob
