my 94 xr2 has 91,000 miles on it. The turbo seeps oil after boosting and there is a lot of oil in the exhaust pipe. The trip to Florida did it, even though I turned the boost down to 8. So I was wondering about the vj11/14 hybrid. Does it bolt on the same as the stockturbo, oil and coolant etc. Would after market bov have extended life of turbo? Thanks

If you send out your turbo to be built, the turbo shop will install the VJ11 compressor and housing onto the original VJ14 CHRA. That will retain all the original coolant and oil lines, the only thing you'll have to do is re-drill the wastegate actuator to mount it.
I highly recommend running some sort of aftermarket BOV or BPV when running elevated boost levels. The stock bpv does not hold up to boost over time. I dont think the stock bpv killed it though.

Thanks Rocket. Any guess on how much money for that rebuild and how much more power?Rocky

I dont recall - I think Dallas Turbo is a popular choice - but a total rebuild + hybridizing is in the $400 range. You could do it on the cheap for the price of a good used VJ11, very simple, but the coolant lines end up a bit different. If you're interested in that route let me know. It wouldnt require sending the turbo out.
Also, I havent seen dyno numbers - but I know the 14/11 is capable of breaking the 200hp mark

I will do one of those things. But first I MUST solve the 3000-4000rpm hesitation problem. If I get that done I will be happy to spend more on the car and keep it as long as they sell 93 octane. If not,its just around town trans. Thanks aain Rocketman.

So I see a vj13 on Ebay Under mazda 323 parts.Guy says it will bolt right on,and would be an upgrade. How true is that?Rocky
-
Totally false. The VJ13 was the early (pre-87 i think) B6T turbo. Identical to the VJ14, just older. I think it was used after the VJ5 but before the VJ14 came into play.

Another reason to avoid the turbo on ebay:
The sellers name is Landon Peck. If that name does not ring any bells, perhaps this thread will:

If anyone chooses to bid on that turbo, I would suggest using extreme caution! Although I got the turbo, and it was good, it took a long time, and required the help of everyone on this forum!!!!

Hey Russ! I thought we were advised to drop the Landon Peck bashing- LOL L L L L. Did you read about his ordeal in buying a car in oregon awat he had to do to get it home? What do they say about Karma? Gus

The guy's just a flat out douchebag...
good call russ, didnt even see it.

Once again don't buy from him the hybrid I bought (for way too much) needed a rebuild. From the condition of the one I received (reportedly only a few months old) this idiot has no idea what the fuck he's doing. it looked like a home rebuild and a highly abused one at that. He represented it as not having any shaft play. It really didn't have any play because the shaft was pretty much frozen in place. cost me another $100 in parts and $35 for a balance job. It was pretty much a core and a poor one at that.
Don't buy fertilizer from this thief!

Gus-
Bash away, my friend, bash away!! I missed the story of his ordeal. Links??

Hey Russ! He posted it on 323 performance with-in a week or two of clearing your situation up. I haven't learned to drag links yet. Maybe Rocketman can help. Gus

Hey Russ! The story is in "garage" Jan.30. As you will get the feel, I'm highly loved by several members of that forum. Gus
-
Hey Russ! Check out the latest in the garage section in 323performance, maybe you can respond. Gus

Gus-
I read the thread - got quite a laugh! You are half right by the way - The turbo I got was fine. It just took forever to get it. However, the turbo that was sold a week before mine,by Landon, to Phillip on this forum was shot, after advertising it as good. If I remember, Phillip said he spent $150-$200 to get the turbo up to spec, after the initial outlay cash to buy it.
I can't add anything to the thread, as it was locked!

Hey Russ! You're right about it being locked. Just alter the heading, and state things. Craig is such a wienie and unfortunately an administrator. It likens to being in charge of handgrenades. Gus
