Title: Oil pan swap
Post by: Snigalfriz on July 10, 2017, 11:47:43 AM
Can you use an oil pan from a turbo engine on a non-turbo engine?

Yup exact same pan.

Yup exact same pan.

They are not. N/A pan is stamped steel.
XR2 oil pan is cast aluminum with fittings for the oil return from the turbo.

The XR2 transmission bolts to parts of the XR2 oil pan for extra bracing.

The N/A pan can be used on the XR2 with some work, I'm not sure if it will work so well the other way around. It probably can be made to work, I don't think it will be a simple swap though.

Rocketman,

You are right it isn't simple.  I looked at it last weekend, and it will take a creativity, but I think it will work.

Couldn't he just drill a hole and then tap a bung into it the same thread as the oil drain line?

WashiestSnake.

I was going the other way, putting a XR2 oil pan on an NA.

The larger mounting surface on the transmission end cause some fitting issues.

The reason I am swapping is that my old oil pan doesn't want to seal on the crank end of the pan.

I have tried black rtv and a rubber gasket.

Oh I'm extremely sorry if my inaccuracy has caused problems. I assumed it was the other way around, I should of asked before stating anything.

WashiestSnake,

Not a problem at all, thanks for chiming in on the issue.
