Title: Looking for advice........
Post by: CapriTypeR on June 25, 2009, 05:39:00 PM
I just got back from watching some stock car races at a local track.  A friend of mine entered his honduh in the import class, otherwise known as "Fearless Fours". After watching him get his tail kicked, it got me to thinking about entering a Capri.
It must be a N/A, and the rules say the engine must be "Stock". That is where I need some advice. The term "Stock", in my opinion, is open to interpretation. I'm not looking to break the rules, just bend them enough to make the car competitive.  Any ideas?  To help you out, here is a PDF copy of the rules:

   RULES - click here (http://www.wilmotraceway.com/Rules/Fearless%204s.pdf)

Here is a YouTube video of the 1/4 mile clay oval track, and some of the "Fearless Fours" racing:

Thanks in advance!

"You may not change or modify the car or parts in ANY WAY."

That should be clarification enough...

you could prolly get some forged pistons and some other sneaky mods.. what are they going to do... remove the head to look at your engine internals?

perhaps a larger throttle body and larger injectors
there's only so much you can do without raising suspicion... i would say go for ITB's... but that might be obvious. doesn't say anything about engine management though...

Stealth mods! So sneaky I love it! hahaha...
Shorter gearset, LSD, mild head work, high compression internals, bored out throttle body, uprated shocks =)

And they only stipulate that you can't add things to your race car, how about removing things like soand deadening material, passenger seats, carpet, linings, trims, spare wheel, aircon  =D

What do you get for winning?

EDIT :
Rules do mention what you can remove.

I have a mild re-built head that will go on, I'll add 2" exhaust (biggest allowed), and remove absolutely everything else I can. I'm just concerned that the 95 horse's won't keep up with some of the other cars.

I'm not yet sure what we can win, and honestly, I don't care!  Trophy, cash, whatever!  I mainly want to do it for the fun of it, as it is something I've always wanted to do.

i heard every 100lbs you can remove will increase the times by .10

with that said the damn seats alone weight a ton it felt like. remove as much as u can. A/C Power steering, remove bumpers and drill out as much sheet metal as you can and put them back on. swap out battery with dry cell, remove top...

I want to run a Capri!  Everyone in my area knows me for my collection of Capris, and I already own enough of them (and parts) to supply a race effort. It's just a matter of making the car competitive.

Hey Russ!  Go for it! You may be able to transplant a larger mazda motor in your car. My son's friend used to run a mazda jr stocker a couple of years ago. I'll ask him for some pointers and pass them along. He ran his car on a 3/8 paved mile track and was always among the front runners.  Gus

Yuri-
You're welcome to come down and pit anytime!

Gus:  Thanks! I was thinking a transplant would end up being the way to go. And as no one around here has any clue about Capris, I may be able to get away with it!
