Hey JC! There are two words that never blend together: Horsepower and Budget.  Gus

keep in mind how much this car weighs..

250-300HP in this thing would be like 500 in most cars.

you are talking about tripling the HP. it can be done and it is all days on the Supra's and DSM. but those motors were built for this stuff.

JC-
Just as I suspected, the general consensus is that it can't be done.  But as Gostlrs said, 250-300 horse in these cars feel like 500 in any other car.  Start slow, build it up as you go, and you may find you're happy with 250.

Your budget should be 10-15k then. Why 500hp? Any particular reason for that number?

I've never seen so much power out of a B6T before, most I've seen is 430hp IIRC...

If you do end up making that much power, you'll need a supertranny to put the power down...ours realisically cant handle more than 300-350hp...

Best to start off with a different engine/tranny combo if you want that much power.

The Deja Vu racing team from Puerto Rico runs the world's fastest 323, they run a 2.0L FE3 (ditched the 1.6) I think, with a reinforced Kia gearbox (similar to ours but newer) for the longest time they struggled to break the 600hp mark.

At 500hp on a B6T you'll be stressing all the components - they're too small to realisically and reliably handle that kind of power. 300hp is even a stretch for most people.

A 'budget' build will get you just about to 200hp. Chipped ECU, MBC, Exhaust, Intake, FMIC, Clutch, BOV, and perhaps an upgraded turbo...it aint cheap.

Its not impossible...but good luck.

well, someone wants to beat me good... ive been working to have the fastest capri on this side of the mississippi river for the past 2.5 years... and i think, I THINK, i may hold that title...
im currently making about 220 or so to the wheels and have a best time in the 1/4 mile of 12.88 ....i also have a high compression b6-t with a mitsubishi 14b (405 cfm) turbocharger
and about 6,000 invested into the car as a whole....
now rocket is right, you will not build 500 hp with this motor.. or any non honda 1.6 litre engine that i know of ...well i take that back a fully built and tweaked isuzu 1.6 from a lotus
m-100 may handle 500 but not a pony more....

now that being said, with only the 220.. i crush 300hp cars all the time due to the power to weight factor (one example would be a wrx sti)
they run good times, but in the 300 hp stock trim there not running a 12.8 and if they are, they got some sticky assed tires and one hell of a driver behind the wheel.... another would be a 350z with its 280hp they are decent 13.5 cars but not fast...

i had a sort of rivalry going with a friend here in lexington from st.louis... he has an srt4 caliber making 310 to the wheels. and he beats me by about 2 cars every time. but there again lighter than a sti or evo, but heavier than a capri xr2...

to put it into perspective the opposite way, 2 years ago, another friend of mine. built a ford festiva with a B6T in the nose, and only had an ecu, downpipe, intercooler with hard pipes and an intake the car only made about 170-180 hp.. but a gutted and fabed up festy weighs only 1600lbs
that car ran a 12.5 @110 so you can see power to weight ratio makes a world of difference when it comes to making a "FAST" car....

the festiva....

my capri...

boy, id love to see you do it...Joe...RCICustoms
