where is the turn signal relay?
« on: December 09, 2010, 04:01:00 PM »

I can't believe I'm the only one to ever ask this...but I can't figure out where the relay is the for the turn signals.  I found the one under the dash to the left of the steering wheel for the hazards (I pull it, the hazards stop working until I plug it back in), but for the life of me I can't find the one for the turn signals.

I think it is inside the steering column.  When I first got mine, we took it all apart trying to make the dash lights go. Still to this day have no running lights on the front. My mechanic friend thinks it has to do with the relay. I dont drive much at night, so it has never been an issue. We had to hot-wire the dash lights to make them work. It is something we need to work on, as soon as he strips out another BMW. The guy is a beemer nut-case!!! LOL

Funny I found it yesterday looking for the wiper switch relay

turn signal one is above the fuse box on drives side. I think it was the green one.

there are like 4 of them in there.

Ahh, so it looks like a "normal" relay, like what would be used for driving lights, not the typical flasher can.  That would explain why I couldn't find it, lol.

Would I be able to swap it with another relay in the car, for testing purposes? It's a big rigamorale to get my fat arse under the dash, so I'd like to have an idea going in, lol.

Yes, it does not look silverish like most..

No you can't swap it with a different one. They are all keyed a special way with different connectors.
