Good News for my Capri
« on: July 30, 2009, 04:03:00 PM »

Hi All - Just wanted to share a Capri victory with the group.  I entered my recently restored Capri in a local Ohio car show today.  Based on my intial reception from some vintage car owners, I felt a little out of place. But at the conclusion of the show, I won First Place for Best Sports Car in the Show and beat out a vintage Alfa Romeo and numerous corvettes I was classed with.  As aside note, thanks to Russ for supplying me with some parts for my car and a Capri T-Shirt that drew allot of compliments.

BRAVO!!  Good for you!! I know what you mean when you mention feeling out of place - We enter my Daughters 93 N/A in a number of shows every year. At the shows, I like to stand back away from the car, and listen to peoples comments, as if I was a spectator. The most commen comments heard are "Why is  that car here? It's nothing special!". That's when I step up and educate them about the car, it's rarity, and why it's so unique. Almost everyone walks away with a better understanding of why we feel the car is special. We average a 90% trophy to show ratio (of the 10 shows we enter a year, we usually win a trophy at nine)!
Even at this years MACG, as the 9 Capris that stayed at the Sunset Inn were driving to the park, I overheard a guy in a 1923 Ford complain that "this car show is supposed to be for Hot Rods!". So look at it as an opportunity to educate and enlighten your fellow automotive enthusiasts. Trophies don't hurt to help drive home the point, as well!!
Again, great job, and post some pictures!

Thanks Russ - You're thoughts were exactly like mine. The fun of the show was explaining how special the Capri is - most people walked away with a smile - having a stuffed koala under the hood helped too.  dumb question - how do you post pictures - can't figure it out.

We always pack Sarah's display with Kangaroos and Koalas! In my signature, click on the Autolog link for sarahcapri- 1, to see how we do it!

To post pictures, first you need a photo host, like photobucket.  After you download pictures, they supply you with an address for the pictures(URL). Insert the pictures URL where the XXX's are:  .

Wow!  I think that's even nicer than my Daughters car! Is it a 5-speed, or auto?

Hey Jeff! She's a beauty. Looks like she just got out of a spa. Got her feet and all done.  Gus

Thanks Gus..

Russ,  It's an automatic. It took almost 2 years to get the car looking like it does. It was a tired Capri when I bought it. Below is a progess picture from over last fall/winter to show you the original condition.
