Horray !!! or so i thought
« on: September 09, 2009, 08:54:00 AM »

so i finally after a month got the car running again !! Ran like a champ after fixing the bov after it blew the pipe off the throttle body twice...

I got the car running real nice pulled HARD !!! and ran FAST ....

Then car went slow and the back brake locked up .... rotor was glowing red so its probably toast ... on thop of that it bubbled all the paint on my rims so i have to repaint that rim most likely ....

I love our capris ... they always keep us busy :)

sounds like the rear wheel bearing locked up, caliper siezed, or like gostlrs said, you had the e-brake up.

Hey Josh! Sounds like a seized caliper, but could also be a wheel bearing. Yesserie-bob that is hot. Also at all your hose connections, a bead or series of dimples need to be put on the pipes to help prevent them from blowing apart because of high boost. Dimple them about 1/4 inch from the ends.  Gus

they are called beads and they keep the pipe from passing the hose clamp and clowing off. its a big problem for boosted cars running pipes that arent bead rolled.

flare out the ends of the pipes at each connection...its pretty important or you will constantly be blowing pipes off. Fix one you'll blow another. I used a hammer and gently and very carefully flared the ends out just a bit...dont need much.

I have heard people use hair spray too, helps them slide on then gets sticky to help hold in place but I prefer the mechanical way... never had a problem with my piping and i've pushed 18+psi through it

bead rolling pipes at a shop will run you about 5-10 bucks a bead.. depending on how well you know the guys at the shop ...
i didnt do this... i use an exhaust cone or a 2-1/2 inch steel cone literally looks like an icecream cone turned upside down .. just take and smack the pipe onto the cone 3 or 4 times, and voila, you have a flared end ...ive seen many ways to keep the couplers from blowing off..

you can tack weld a dot in about 6 places arround the pipe bout 1/4 in from the edge...

you can take an adjustable wrench and just put a tweak, outwards, in about 6 spots arround the pipe ...

or you can use a 1/8 inch tipped punch, and put dimples, from the inside out, in about 6 places arround the pipe.. again about 1/4 inch from the end of the pipe...

all you want to do is make a ridge or "bead" you can stretch the coupler over so that when you tighten the clamp up arround the pipe you would have to slide it over the ridge or bead for it to pop off...  this will completely solve the problem as long as you do ALL of your silicone connections on all of your pipe

a good exmple of what were saying, is the raised edge your throttle body has to keep the boot on...same thing but you gotta do all the pipes to hold any kind of boost pressure....

hope this helps ya ....Joe

Hey Josh! It's easy enough to flare the ends of the tubes, but don't get carried away. Too much and you won't be able to slide the hoses on. Take any rigid round item, hammer handle or steel pipe and roll it around the inside of the tube to flare the ends out.  Gus

i fixed all the problems i took care of all the pipes and i cranked those puppies on really tight. The car runs great and i love how nice it pulls ... now i need to look into som better and wider rubber for my tires ... car will lose traction in first and second from the pulling lol. Also going to start working on getting a nice hood scoop and painted the valve cover ... plus the gasket is starting to leak oil at high rpm so i wana fix that.

Hey Gost! Russ has anything you could want except a '94xr2 tail-light. He may have as many as two-dozen cars in various stages of part pilfering. He's a great guy and hopefully you'll meet him soon unless of course you have already.  Gus
