You all know I love my Capri, and most things Australian, but this show re-affirms the fact that foreign governments are "dumping" products on the American market and driving American businesses out of business.

"Dumping" = the practice of selling goods in America cheaper than they are available in the country of manufacture.  This practice is supposed to be illegal.

Cool video.. You know what seems to stand out about these capris (besides how cool they look) more than anything? It appears to me that they have mostly all held up over time very well.. Especially the body / paint. Most 18 year old cars have long lost their luster, and several lose their clear coat.. These capris' seem to hold up extremely well mechanically, and cosmetically over the long haul.. Especially when you know how bad quality control was with these cars.

????????

I always seem to find the the exact opposite. It's rare to find a nice Capri that didn't have lots of TLC or $$ poured into it. I've found that most of these cars were treated like exactly what they are - disposable 90's cars. That is why I feel it's so important to save as many as we can!

Just my 2 cents!

That very well may be so, I've had 3 in this last 3 weeks. All 3 were in almost perfect condition. If I could have afforded to keep the other 2 I would have, but their purpose was profit for my xr2. I may sell this one too, and buy another one. These capris have brought me between $2200-$2900. I paid $1000 each. This xr2 is costing me $1400, I can probably get $2800. Very hot cars around here. I have 4 other near mint capris I found all $1500 or less. I've had good luck I guess. Lol.. Morning everyone! I'm driving to Texas now to get my xr2!!

Hi Drbob
Like to re open this old thread if I may With Russ's kind permission.
First of all my god I had forgotten all about that old TV show The presenter is still around on Aust TV and let me tell you the average Capri has aged better than the presenter LOL.
But the dumping on US markets thing just don't hold water
Ford Australia is a wholly US owned company so what you are saying is that a American company is dumping products in America and bringing the profits back home to America That ain't dumping.

Cheers Andrew

Andrew, you don't need my permission!!
From my understanding, Ford of AU, Ford of Europe, Ford of anywhere, are seperate companies from Ford of US. The profits from operations in other countries stay in the other countries.
I don't care if FordAU, "dumped" here or not - I'm glad they did! I wouldn't have my roadster otherwise!

Russ I disagree with you on how well they hold up.  Since 1993 when I bought my first Capri with less than 18,000 m on it to today, the only thing I ever did was not drive it in the snow.  And all I ever did was wash them a few time a year.  Never buffed them out, waxed them or anything. And the paint looked good on every one.  And I never did anything special mechanically except fix what was broke and change the oil (not often enough) and tune ups.  The first one ran like a swiss watch until the day I got hit and totaled.  The 2nd one still runs great even though my brother doesn't take care of it.  And well #3 seems to be the exception to the rule.

Yuri-
As requested, here is the "Cops" episode, featuring the intoxicated driver of a 91 Capri.  Anyone know who it is?
