We have a cable-driven speedometer, there is no VSS.

Although im not sure if there is anything internal in the tranny that tells the controller speed.

Hey Fern! Is your trans automatic or manual? Your post is confusing. It sounds like an auto. There is a device called a throttle position sensor but not sure of what you stated.  Gus

From the 93 EVTM:
"Vehicle speed information is provided by the Pulse Generator located on the transaxle housing.  This component is a magnetic pickup that detects the passing of projections on the transaxle's reverse forward drum.  This drum has 12 projections that are evenly spaced 30 degrees apart.  As the drum rotates, a voltage pulse is generated in the magnetic pickup each time a projection passes the sensor.  The Transmission Control Module determines vehicle speed by counting the times per second that a pulse is generated."

The wiring diagram shows a Turbine Sensor (pulse Generator) with 4 wires- ground, tran fluid temp switch and 2 wires from pickup,  the pickup wires go to terminals 2J & 2L of the trans control
module.  I'd look for a 4 wire connector coming off the transmission.
