master cylinder rebuild
« on: March 10, 2020, 09:46:32 PM »

Does anyone know where I can get a rebuild kit for the master cylinder for my 91 XR2, or if I can rob a kit from another car to get the 3 main piston seals?  Mine is blowing back into the reservoir.

Thanks!!!

Not finding a kit online, and it looks like the master cylinders themselves are out of stock

I've made a lot of phone calls and run out of options.  Wondering if anyone else has had the same experience?

I found a rebuild kit for a different cylinder that looks similar and has the same bore size.  I'm hoping the seals are the same and it will fix the issue.

I had bought some left rear calipers and some rebuild kits back a few months ago since they seem to be getting scarce.  With 3 Capris, I want to be able to have on hand to keep these cars going until I age out!  I guess I will have to go on the hunt for master cylinders and rebuild kits.

So just for the record, the master cylinder has 3 main seals.

All of them are sized for the cylinder bore which is 13/16" (or .813").  Two of them are .400" ID.  The shaft which the middle seal slides over is .554".

Raybestos kit MK1026 has the two outer seals and they appear to be identical.

I have ordered one more kit that looks like it may have the middle seal.

Hopefully this works!!

Thanks, I ordered it.

The other seal kits did not fix my issue.  I also mailed it back to Cardone for overhaul and they said they can't fix it.

Well that is a problem. I sure hope my master cylinders don't give out.

Bummer, was hoping to hear better news on this. Finding them in Aus is not a bad option however

Did they have it? Rockauto will send yours to Cardone to be rebuilt but the last time I heard anyone tried, they said it wasn't available.

I have ordered one. They were very quick to take my money, but as yet it is still pending. Fingers crossed. They ask for a core replacement fee of $45 USD. Postage from Au to the US is higher than that. So I'm waiting to see what comes from this.
