1991 n/a base capri CODES 25,26, and 34.
« on: February 03, 2020, 07:49:00 PM »

I have just acquired a 1991 base model Capri at 120,000. One owner, always garaged. Very very clean. unfortunately, the owner hooked the batt up backwards and killed the computer.  After trying to get the car running with a new computer and distributor it still won’t run. Throwing codes 25,26, and 34. Any ideas?

Could it be out of gas?

Have you checked the main fuses in the fuseblock under the hood? One of them usually pops when the battery is hooked up backwards.
Would not hurt to check literally every other fuse as well

Yes I have, and I’ve actually replaced all of them. The computer is new and the distributor is new. I get constant spark and initial injector pulse, codes are for fuel pressure regulator control valve canister purge solenoid and idle air control. With those sensors not functioning stop the car from running at all?

Welcome here!  I see you also own a 91xr2, I assume is running ok.
Have you ever seen the na run, or do you just have the word of the po that it was running fine one day until he installed the battery backwards?

You say spark is OK, have you tried spraying starter fluid into the intake?  Spark plus gas means it should run a little.

If you got spark and gas and no start try then it could be timing belt bad?

I don't know your repair experience level, but the more exhausting details the better.

It’ll run on starting fluid and it fires a few times every time you hit the starter like it wants to run but then it decides not too. Fortunately my xr-2 runs great I’ve put 11,000 miles on it since I got it and had no issues other then rust. Anyway timing belt looks great, ignition timing is on, I took it off my friends hands that had had it since 2001 so I do trust that it still runs. That’s said it does not put out an injector pulse at all and the computer doesn’t even turn the ground circuit on for some of the sensors. I’m leaning towards a PCM but it’s already been replaced twice.

OK, not enough fuel, for whatever the reason.  You say no injector pulse, are you verifying absence with a plug in test light on an injector cable?  Remember the pulse is a ground pulse, with the main relay supplying power to the injectors (and to many other things).
