323 motor
« on: July 10, 2010, 02:25:00 AM »

Hey the motor I bought is out of a 89 323 gt, this thing will bolt up to my tranny, correct? What a time to ask that question, eh? The motor should be here monday. I have plans to pull my motor and install the 323 one. Put mine on a stand and ramp it up. Bore it 60 over and get busy. I am also looking at a garret or tubo tronics T3-T4 hybrid. I will see 250 horses out of it. Can I bump up the compression a little when buying new pistons? Any suggestions on my pusuit of the elusive 250 bhp will be appreciated.
Man, there is a supra turbo running around town for sale... mmm...

one more question; does it take any machining to combine a VJ-11 and a VJ-14?? the people at Alamo turbo's in the seattle area said that if it requires any machining, it would be better to just buy a new turbo.

14b is the turbo im running, and yes it takes some hefty modification to get it working. but hold on to your hat..this turby is where it starts to get a little nutty.. the baby of the mitsu turbos, yet in terms you can fathom its slightly larger than a t-bird.. the big turbo that rocket and others are running currently..
its 405 CFM and a t bird is a 385 CFM

the brilliant things about mitsubishi turbos is that the same hotside fits all the tdo5 coldsides meaning the same hotside will run 14b 16g super16g and 20g centers and coldsides and to swap them out you only need loosten 1 bolt on the v-band clamp to remove...

thanks, I have a lot of friends who are machinists, and we have a machine at work that I've used a few times. So pretty much most turbo upgrades will consist of fab'in a new or, at the very least different adaptor, the the rest is just piping, corretct? Man, I wish someone round here could bend me up a different exhaust manifold, like a custom header for a decent price. the only I've founds for our cars is around $800+. It's nice now at work, when i became part of the maint dept, it opened up doors. Now I'm welding and using the different machines. Kind of cool for an old fart!!!

A question about the stock NA Capri engine block:
When I purchased my 'project donor' 1991 Capri, the previous owner had just installed a new short-block. In the trunk was the original block, crankshaft, pistons & rods. He steamed cleaned it all & taped-up the bearing surfaces (to protect them) & labled the #1-#4 pistons & rods. The block is covered with surface-rust (from the steam cleaning).
I have no need for these parts... are these "in demand" items or just scrap material? I'd hate to trash it if others need them.... Please advise

do not scrap them!! they are not high demand parts becuase not everyone tears there cars down that far themselves. but yes there good parts to have.
gimme a little time and i may pick them up from you. there basically perfect to put on an engine stand and slowly build a race motor with...

Kentucky is a 'fur-distance' from Texas to pick-up parts my friend. Unless your just out on a road trip for some Tex-Mex food. Your more than welcome to the parts but shipping a block or crankshaft has to be very expensive & not worth the $$$

i bought a brand new shortblock from a seller on ebay about a year ago... it cost me 150.00 to ship from texas actually via freight.. weve bought engines used from all over, complete engines
ill have to look it up again but theres a company that works with independant truckers and they bid to ship your stuff.. the last complete engine we ordered and had bid to ship cost us 90.00 to ship so i would say it would be between there...
abf freight would be another option but it truely depends on how anxious you are to get rid of it and if you are willing to bring it to abf and pack it on a trailer headed to kentucky..
basicly you put it on a trailer (you physically place the parts on the trailer) and put up a divider wall. and you only pay for the square footage that you use.. then its driven up here and i have to go to my abf terminal and unpack what you packed... when we moved from maine to ky. we did this to move all our stuff and for our beds and bikes and lots of totes and boxes we used 6 feet of space (packed to the ceiling of course) and i want to say it was 385.00
so im wondering what a foot and a half or so would run... check it out, its called ABF U Pack
and if all else fails . .my wife has allways wanted to see the alamo maybe a trip to texas could be planned... its a thought... id just like to have it to build a race engine with
start with the block and save up slowly buy rods, wiseco pistons, arp hardware, Ect. i have a head already so a empty block sounds like just the ticket...
how do the cylinder walls look?

do you know why the previous owner took the shortblock out? was it worn rings, or massive failure?
