92 shifter noise
« on: May 28, 2019, 11:38:52 AM »

I have a 92 xr2, no matter what gear I am in I get a loud buzzing sound coming from the shifter around 3k rpm. Any idea on what is make ing the noise (really annoying on the highway)  also is it normal to be around 4k rpm at 80mph? Thanks

You most likely have worn bushings in the shift linkage.

Yup, shifter bushings. Easy fix.

Yes, 4k is normal at 80mph. These cars were made during an era where the speed limits were still 55mph and geared accordingly.
There is a 5th gear swap for the XR2 that will drop about 500rpm at highway speeds, if you search the forum here there are a few threads with info.
