Parts Finder FAQ
« on: October 12, 2018, 11:06:13 AM »

Something I would like to see is a listing of where to find parts for our cars, all on one list.  i am working on a FAQ, to be shared in as many places as I can get to.  Posts here will wind up in the FAQ if you can include personal experiences on purchases, or identify sources.

For example, the Dorman 20786 is a readily available brake or clutch pedal rubber pad for 5 speed cars.  Autozone sells for $5.99, says they don't fit our cars, but they do,,, also cheap on ebay.

Lots of Mazda parts fit. I'll get a list from my work when I can you can't get Capri headstuds from AutoZone or Nappa but you can get Miata head stuts from Mahe and those fit perfectly. It's weird they don't cross check for the engine that way.

That is a great idea Blueamber! I have been keeping a notebook with threads from the facebook group as well as some bookmarks for parts. One repository would be great.

This would be a big undertaking.  Probe, Tracer, 323, Escort and others.  And then there's the aftermarket parts.  And the aftermarket parts that work as opposed as just what is supposed to work.  I'm like John, I have my own list of things I found interesting when I read about them in various posts.

I manage an O'Reilly, so I'll edit this post as more interchanged parts come to me.

I'd be very interested to see such a spreadsheet.

Did the spread sheet for parts happen or is it still a work in progress.

The idea was to have folks easily submit data for items bought, part numbers, where bought, price, comments about fit, etc.  A spreadsheet of some kind ( or doc with search capability, table of contents) would be created and maintained.

However, making the data available is beyond the capability of this forum, I don't see the ability to store a data file.

I could host it on the main page with the other information, but our server does not have a whole lot of space to play with. We're on an ancient hosting plan, it's sufficient and cheap enough. I have looked into moving hosts in the past and it's an ordeal. A spreadsheet should work though.

A Google Spreadsheet might work, that's hosted in the cloud.

A few years ago I had the idea to make a Capri Wiki page, with Bubbagumpshrimp as the webmaster. We had a prototype page running on a test server, but didn't flesh it out much. He's since sold his Capri and his life got busy, not active here anymore.
There are a few communities that have wikis made up for their classic cars. They cover such things as production stats, known/common issues & repairs, and parts sourcing.
I feel like that would be a great benefit to the community, however, it seems very few can be arsed to go outside of asking on Facebook to look for any information.

Something like a wiki would be a community effort and take a good deal of time to get running. I will look into it again, perhaps there's an easier solution out there today.

Would be great. You're one of the few people who cares with the expertise to pull something like that off.

Thanks, Jack Byrd

I know we talked about me helping with this at some point in the past Matt....I'm still game. Rather contribute to the forum. Let me know as I could whip up a searchable access DB with a tasteful front end UI.

Rocket, a board I used to be on all the time did a separate user run area for this sort of thing.
