Replaced maf sensor now won't stay running
« on: July 22, 2018, 08:27:19 PM »

I have a 93 Capri and it was hesitating than at a certain rpm full power would kick in. I replaced the maf sensor with a brand new one and now the car starts but than stalls.I have no idea why it won't run now. Is their a certain procedure to restart the computer so it recognizes the new maf? Please help!

No special procedures.

Have you tried putting the old one back in and checked it's plug wiring.

That behavior (starting but stalling) can be caused by vacuum leaks, have a good look over the system

Thanks for the info rocketman

Well I think the brand NEW maf sensor is bad. This is the only conclusion I can come to since when I unplugged the connector to it the car was doing the same thing. Basically starts than stalls like theres no maf at all. Also I put the old maf back on and it runs. I will be returning the sensor and ordered another one, really hoping it works.

Not sure if anyone else has used them but i got the remanufactured Cardone part. If anyone has used one of these please let me know what your experience was!

The fuel pump switch is located inside the VAF. (safety feature, I suppose) If there is no airflow, or if the VAF is unplugged, the fuel pump will not run and there will be no fuel pressure.
With the key on, if you manually actuate the VAF, you should hear the fuel pump kick on.

Hope that helps with troubleshooting.

Thanks again rocket man, I got my second new maf sensor and this one seems to work. I'm not sure if the hesitation is completely gone or not. Ill drive it tomorrow to work and see. Next I was thinking of replacing the throttle position sensor if the new maf sensor doesn't fix it

My Capri is my daily driver so the gas should be good, I read some info on another forum where it's a good idea to take the idle air sensor off and clean the passages. My car has a really rough idol so I'm going to try that this weekend. I'm still not sure what the hesitation is. Hoping it too has something to do with the idle air sensor. So far I replaced the cap/rotor, plug wires, air filter and maf sensor.
