Replaced maf sensor now won't stay running

(1/2) > >>

Stickshifter6:
I have a 93 Capri and it was hesitating than at a certain rpm full power would kick in. I replaced the maf sensor with a brand new one and now the car starts but than stalls.I have no idea why it won't run now. Is their a certain procedure to restart the computer so it recognizes the new maf? Please help!

chrispoe:
No special procedures.

Have you tried putting the old one back in and checked it's plug wiring.

Rocketman:
That behavior (starting but stalling) can be caused by vacuum leaks, have a good look over the system

Stickshifter6:
Thanks for the info rocketman

Well I think the brand NEW maf sensor is bad. This is the only conclusion I can come to since when I unplugged the connector to it the car was doing the same thing. Basically starts than stalls like theres no maf at all. Also I put the old maf back on and it runs. I will be returning the sensor and ordered another one, really hoping it works.

Not sure if anyone else has used them but i got the remanufactured Cardone part. If anyone has used one of these please let me know what your experience was!

Rocketman:
The fuel pump switch is located inside the VAF. (safety feature, I suppose) If there is no airflow, or if the VAF is unplugged, the fuel pump will not run and there will be no fuel pressure.
With the key on, if you manually actuate the VAF, you should hear the fuel pump kick on.

Hope that helps with troubleshooting.
