Advice on reviving a '92 Capri

(1/2) > >>

Trackerrrr:
Hello all,
I've never owned a Capri but I am going to look at one that's been sitting a long time, at least six years. Top is shredded, tires are flat, interior is shot, and paint is faded. It's a wreck. But I can get it almost free and I have plenty of time to tinker.

What issues should I be looking for specific to the Capri? I consider myself a decent mechanic and I'm positive I can get it back on the road in time for summer. It don't have to look pretty, just cruise good. It's also a manual trans, non turbo.

 ;D

EDIT: Turns out it's an auto trans but I'm getting a manual trans and the linkage with it.

That depends on how many miles it has on it, was it "running when it was parked"?   You'll absolutely need all new fluids, filters and belts, including timing belt.  While you're into the timing belt, might as well do belt idler, and tensioner, water pump, oil pump.  Flush brake  and clutch lines.  And don't forget to change the transmission fluid.  Unless I've forgotten something, that should get it running, keep it running so you can start concentrating on other stuff.  If it wasn't running when it was parked, check all this stuff until you get it running it might not.

The lady I bought it from said it did indeed run when parked. The auto trans wouldn't get the car over 25 mph so they parked it years ago. I was able to get it to turn over but it would not fire (not surprised). I'll start digging into it tomorrow when I bring it home.

That trans could be a problem, if it was bad when parked, it's probably toast now.

Found out it's a '91 model from the VIN. Got it home and started cleaning her up. Hopefully I didn't catch any diseases in the process cuz she was/is nasty.

Here's some image links. They show up HUGE if I try and insert them here. This was after vacuuming and cleaning all the crap out after several hours...
