New capri owner
« on: November 18, 2017, 09:26:18 AM »

Hi all, new to the site and new to the capri sceen.
I came across this beauty at an auction and couldn't pass it up.
I may keep it, I may not.. I'm undecided at this point.
If i do get rid of it I wonder if its worth more parting it out or selling it whole.
It runs and drives, and in good shape for the age but the top is no good
and I think a new top would cost more than I paid for the whole car.
Here's a few photos, I will take more asap.

Hi Mikeh, you wili find the best knowledge on Capri's 90-94 on this site but one small rub is the image hosting.

Photobucket prohibits anyone from using their site to host content for forums to display in posts like yours, so the pics are blocked as you can see. Not so with these guys..
https://postimages.org/
Very happy with the free hosting. - Can you use them to make a url for the pictures? you need to do them one at a time, even though you can load a bunch at a time - I could only make them individually. I'm not complaining though, because unlike Photobucket, they specifically permit hosting for forums like ours.

You can download an extension for Firefox that will allow you to view the blocked Photobucket images just like normal.
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/photobucket-fix/?src=dp-dl-othersby

The car looks to be in really good condition, I like the duel set of black stripped the trunk. IMHO... they should have done two sets on the hood too.

Edit: I see you reposted them...to bad the images are way smaller then your first posts.

Pick the “Do not resize my images” button when you use them.

I guess a little more info on the car would help...
Its got 100,052 miles
Clean title
5 speed manual
Power mirrors, windows and locks (all work)
original am/fm radio with cassette (still works)
New tires
A/C

There is virtually no difference in price between 1991-1993  prices so run it again as a 93. However, build numbers were declining so data will be working with a smaller dataset, so less accurate might be the result. But who cares, these are not Lamborghini’s.

You are asking about pricing at the worst time of year. All convertibles, boats and motorcycles are on fire sale in the fall-winter seasons because owners who are thinking of selling hate to waste so much $ on storage all winter until pricing peaks in late spring-early summer.

If your interior is really nice (rare) and it has very few dings and no rust I would guess it would draw about $1200 now, maybe $2000 in spring (installed tops cost about $300 for vinyl, $600 for cloth). Tires will factor in on cheap cars more, so their condition will also figure in predominantly.

Also, your local area will also matter. Iowa ain’t SoCal so a convertible isn’t as valuable there, and manual transmissions hurt value unless your car is a rare muscle car.
I regularly see 91-3 N/A and XR2s that appear to be in great shape for $1800 to $2000 on the low end. I used to use searchtempest.com and check them nationally. 94s are worth more, and XR2s even more but a quick check of our classified section here on this site will show even nice 94 XR2s have sold for under $4000. I just saw a pretty sharp one go on eBay for $1600, but that was unusual.

Parting it out is probably not a good idea either. Most of us buy a parts car whole and either store it or strip it. Otherwise it becomes hard to afford parts piecemeal.

I agree with what he said.  I got my '91 XR2 on eBay for $1000.  Two owner, 64K.  The dealer cried......lol  Love it.

Wow beautiful Capri, definetly agree with the others values for these cars are low. I payed 2k for my N/A with 60k miles, but the body was pretty hammered lots of dents, bad header panel. I got kinda screwed, but the car is mostly rust free, so that's nice.

Thanks for the feedback everyone.. Still not sure what I will end up doing with it. I have the room to store it untill spring and try to sell it then. I'd rather not part out such a nice car especially one that runs and drives

Agreed. Please don’t. Somebody should enjoy it for a few more years.

Looking at the pics and mileage of the car, I think you would get more money for it selling it whole than parting it out.
