Fuel pump relay pinout?
« on: August 18, 2016, 04:26:01 PM »

Howdy folks,

I have a 1991 NA that isn't getting fuel.  I tried a new relay and still no power at the pump.  When I jumper the the black/white wire on the fuel pump to the battery the fuel pump runs and I can start the car and it idles fine.  The fuel gauge doesn't move either.

I wanted see if there was a pinout for the fuel pump relay.

Being a 5 pin relay I am guessing it is:

2 power outs, 1 ground, 1 trigger and 1 source power.

Does anyone know which pins are which?

Any ideas?

Daniel

Black-ground
Black/white- ignition on signal
Black/red-start signal
Green/white- 12V input from Vaf switch
Green/red – output to fuel pump

If you’re applying 12V to the black/white wire at the fuel pump itself, check the Inertia switch in the trunk.

Folks,

After some troubleshooting, I found no power on the green/red at the inertia switch in the trunk. I did have power on the green/red leaving the fuel pump relay.  I ran a test wire from the relay green/red to the green/red on the inertia switch and the pump car started and ran great.  So I will have replace the green/red wire.

The fuel gauge still didn't move though, any ideas on that?
