Rear Break Upgrade???
« on: August 15, 2016, 05:59:28 PM »

Do we have anything that could be used to upgrade the rear brakes? i relaize its only 25% of the braking force, but Id like to make sure I have the ability to get as much braking power as possible.

Not unless you switch to a different knuckle (which could probably be done)

The rear rotor of the Capri is also the hub (the studs are pressed into it) and it holds the bearings as well.

Most BF based cars came with drum brakes in the rear, we’re lucky the Capri was even upgraded to discs...LOL

So is there atleast a bigger rotor option, or are we just completely stuck with them?

There are no larger rotors available for the rear.

You might be able to use the Escort GT’s rear caliper, but it’s not much of an upgrade. The escort’s rear caliper's piston is 31mm vs the capri’s 30mm.

Honestly all you will need is to do the front brake upgrade and swap in the 929 master cylinder and 626 booster. This will facilitate your face being planted on the windscreen if not belted in. The rears are just along for the ride.

The 929 master cylinder will also require a remote distribution block.

Chris what does that mean, and how does that even work? I know the dizzy runs off the cam gear, but how can it run of something else?

Ummm…. the 929 master cylinder only has two outputs vs our Capri’s four with built in proportioning, I would use something like this if I were to use that large 1 inch master cylinder.

I have an MX3 booster/master which is larger and looks like it will bolt up, and has the prop valve bolted to the booster. I have not tried to use it yet. Miata unit looks very similar as well

Do you have the longer 7/8 master cylinder from the 4 cylinder, or do you have the shorter 15/16 master from the V6 models?
Cuz I’ve been curious for a while now about the V6 booster/master setup.
