1991 auto trans issues

I recently bought a 1991 with auto trans.

It shifts hard from 2-3, then again from 3-4.

I have to let up on the gas for it to shift sometimes.

Also, not sure what the manual shift button does or how it works.

Any feedback is appreciated!

If the manual shift button is anything like my old Subaru, it's a gear-holder. So if you switch it on and put it in '2', it won't go any higher than '2' no matter what. If you put it in '3' it'll do 2 or 3 but not 1 or 4. It should have no effect in 1 or D.

Sounds like your kickdown might be a bit out of adjustment. It will make it shift hard like that.
