Gear oil leak

I recently replaced the left cv axle on my 91 XR2. I am getting a small leak now where the axle meets the transmission. Is there a clip in the trans that I may have damaged or lost when I removed the old axle? Or  do I need to try to push the axle in a little farther? It drives fine, just leaking.

Most likely the tranny’s output seal is going bad.
