Are HID's Worth It?
« on: March 31, 2016, 05:15:48 PM »

Has anyone upgraded to HID's if so how much of a difference is it? What kit did you use for the conversion? If no kit was used can I get information on how you did it?

Not particularly. IIRC there is a small socket for like a blue 168 bulb. I'd just remove that socket for extra venting.

That's what I have, and they weren't great, as far as light distribution. Would have been best to get something like this, with a more neutral color temp and not blacked out.

IMHO… both of those lights aren’t very good(those digital dc ballasts suck too). Putting a projector lenses in front of a reflector headlight is not a projector and will only hinder the reflector output.  I’d install new OEM style halogen lamps over those…LOL

I did a fairly lengthily post not too long ago about this very thing.

There is also projects like my own that would denote building a flush mount headlight system.

Yes I saw that Chris, I'm not looking to make my own projector setup. I was asking if anyone bought some 4x6 HIDs and modified them to fit if they weren't a kit. The set you did was awesome looking.

The first set of housings I listed were the ones I now have just kicking around. You should expect a casting flaw in the glass, where the lip of it will protrude just far enough out to interfere with the chrome retaining bezel that holds the light (H4666). Sand it down very carefully, the smoother the entry, the better.

That's good to know, is the light pattern any brighter then the stock lights? I cant stand how dim the factory light are.  I honestly cant see anything at night even after sanding and polishing them.

Yeah, with something like 4300ks in there, you'd have better than halogen visibility.
