Metro Meet
« on: June 27, 2009, 08:53:00 PM »

Hey Guys!  I went out in the heat today and walked around what is billed as the largest meeting of Austin Metros. There were about 60 of them in various forms and colors. There were mostly stock cars and mildly dressed up stock ones, even a few that looked they crawled out of a junk pile but were stilled covered with love. Two that were outstanding were a pick-up conversion(one of four) and a sports car Transformer. The pick-up must have taken a year of week-ends to do and looked like a master body man performed the task. The sports car was not recognizable as a metro except to a fellow collector. To my eyes the only thing that looked of factory sheetmetal were the doors. It sported a complete Honda V-Tech engine and trans to rear wheels. The car kinda resembled a new style RX8. It was freekin gorgeous!   Gus.

Congratulations, Gus!  You made me google a car! I had never heard of the Metro until now.  Is this the car?:

I thought the Capris were small! A 1 liter engine?  Yikes!

Hey Russ!  No! These cars are imports from England. They are minuture Nash Ramblers and were made by Austin I believe. The engines are 1200-1500cc. They were available in late 50's and early 60's. Gus

Hey Russ!  Google Nash Metro. They were apparently imported by Nash Co.

I am very familar with the Nash Metropolitans.  Cool little cars.  I had a neighbor that raced one when I was a kid - Damn engine was almost as big as the rest of the car!

I also didn't have a clue to what a Austin Metro was.  But the second you said Nash, I knew it to be the metropoliton.
