XR2 from Germany
« on: January 07, 2016, 01:16:34 PM »

hey there. in this thread i will show you some news about my XR2 from Germany,

I bought this hear near Stuttgart from a Ford Dealer. He sold it and sayed that they think that the cylinder head is damaged because the engine lost coolant. so i paid 900 euros (977dollar).

at home i checked every thing. the reason of this coolant lost was a broken coolant radiator.
but here in germany you dont get a radiator for that car. so i bought one from rockauto.com amerika.
changed the timing belt and the water pump an now the car drives very good.

it has a very good condition. soft top is good, no rust and about 60k miles.

so here is a picture of it

in the future i want to change some think. at first i have buyed new wheels.

next things i want to change is the exhaust. 2,5" diameter. but dont know if i will try to build it on my own or if i get any exhaust to buy. but dont know where. here in germany i get nothing.

the chip for ecu did i get here from germany. only have to install this. the seller said it will switch off the  ecu cut for boost over 11psi.
lets try it.

and i want to change the turbocharger and the intercooler and ad an oil cooler.

so if there are some news i will tell it .

if you have some ideas where to get an exhaust or for some ideas for changing on my xr2 i will look forward about that.

Do note that you do not need a chip to switch off the boost cut, and that installing a chip will also not switch off the boost cut. The boost cut is controlled by a vacuum switch in the engine bay, and can be disabled by simply disconnecting the white electrical plug connected to it. With that protection gone you will need a chip so that you don't damage your engine after raising boost levels, however. ;)

Of curse the main reason of the chip is for adapting the fuel injection for higher boost levels. The seller of the chip means that it will shut off the boost cut too. Dont know if it will realy works. If not i will shut it off on my own. Thats not the problem.

Dont know how the boost cut works but i think it is just like at my old ford fiesta rs turbo. The ecu shut off the fuel injection when you reach the boost level of 0,5 bar. With a chip the ecu riches on the fuel injection and shut off these bost cut function.

So its not my first turbo car. My old was an fiesta rs turbo. 1.6 8V enginge with a garret turbo. Standart 132hp. After some changes like chip, more boost, 3"exhaust from downpipe, other intercooler and another camshaft i get about 215hp at 1.0bar on the dyno. Was realy great to drive. Miss the car but i had to sold it 2 years ago because i did need the money. So the capri is my next project and i promise it will be great.

The thing what makes it very diffecult here in germany is to get some parts for it and to get parts what are legal here. We have a lot of laws here for our cars and are not aloud to use every parts like exhaust for examble. Maybe you find some article about german TÜV laws for cars and parts in the internet to get information about it.

But i am honest. It is not important for me if all parts are street legal here. So lets see what will happend with this project in next time.

I'm not aware of a chip removing the boost cut, but Rocketman will have to step in to answer that for certain. Thankfully it's super easy to disable by merely unclipping a single wire in the engine bay. :)

Nomake - you're correct, there is no boost or fuel cut in the ECU. There is a pressure switch in the engine bay that sends a signal to the ECU to cut fuel. Disabling the switch disables the boost cut.

This cannot be done in the chip. Very easy to do mechanically or electrically though.

Lots of Capri popping up in Germany now!

I am sad but actually i've got no time to something on my own capri. I had to fix the capri of my woman and some other things.

But there are some news. I got lowering spring my capri in 30mm and i bought another capri xr2 for parting out. So i  have a lot of parts now.

I got an garret t3 turbocharger. So i will begin to build it in my capri. Also i will build my own exhaust system. Cat back 2,5" diameter.

Its a lot of work but i hope that i get some time in future now. In the winter i will rebuild a second engine to use it when it will be ready. We will see.

Plan to buy a air fuel ratio controller to have a look on it.

I hope that i will get about 200-220 hp. Alot more than stock capri.
