94 xr2 Snow sighting
« on: January 23, 2012, 02:02:00 AM »

Was in Millersville yesterday testing the wifes newish Outback (in the snow), when I looked ahead and saw a Capri.  Pulled up closer, a relatively straight RED 94 XR2 with a white hardtop.  Out in the snow, slush, and SALT !!!!!  Have not seen it around before, maybe belongs to a college kid.  I"ll have to keep my eyes open, hopefully it will get thru the winter OK.  In the SNOW arggggg!

I dunno, mine drove pretty nice in the snow.  Seems to be a pretty predictable car.  And that was during a snow storm with no wipers.

They do fine in the snow, that's not what we're debating here. The issue is that the salt eats these cars up, why would someone knowingly drive such a rare car in conditions that will kill it?

They probably don't know what they have. It's just a disposable 90's car.......

Or it could be someone who had an earlier car with the 94 parts on it, hard to be sure of a 94 unless you walk right up to it.  If I didn't prefer the first series body I'd hunt for some 94 parts.

The 94 XR2 wheels, spoiler, sideskirts, and "XR2" splash emblem are unique, not saying it couldn't happen but they don't all usually make it to another car together like that

Or the guy who posted could be mistaken, it does happen.  Same as my dad when he sees one with a wing on the back. I believe the wing is exclusive, but I see plenty of kids who stick one on.

Well, Correct 94 tailights, center section body color.  Correct Capri imprinted bumper cover, XR2 decals on the side, 7 spoke mags, side skirts.  Seem enough to call it a 94 to me.

I'll just have to keep an eye out, in case he's not so carefull.  Always look for close "spares"

Wing doesn't always mean XR2.  Our '93 came with a wing but it is an N/A.

The wing was a factory option in 91-93, as were foglights and alloy wheels. 94 the wing was different and exclusive to the XR2

You can figure if he has put 94 parts on a non 94 car, he is a member of this forum.  Most people outside of this forum have no idea what they are driving or it's rarity.  He would of had to get the idea somewhere and this forum (and yahoo) are the only ones that talk about it.

It might not be a '94 and he just needs it to get to work.  Some people can only afford 1 car and I can appreciate the economics of it.  However, it is a shame in any event because salt does eat them up.  I have never driven either of my Capris in snow and can reasonably assume (from the places they came from) that no one else exposed them to it either.  They stay covered throughout the winter, unless a sunny, dry day appears out of nowhere - then I pull the cover off one and take it for a cruise to celebrate, followed by a wash!

I'm kinda stuck between.  My '93 doesn't seem to have much rust underneath ... I did drive to work in it recently after a light dusting of snow (and it did appear they'd dropped some chem on the roads).  Since I got a new job 25 miles from home, it makes more eco-sense to drive the Capri instead of the truck (drive the truck, less money to work on the Capri with).

But yeah, if he didn't *need* to, he should drive something else.  I would.
