Know where I can find a new one of these?
« Reply #15 on: October 09, 2010, 11:08:00 AM »

Measure the other side.
There's no way the length of that bolt is 2 and 3/8"  I would have figured 4 & 1/4 AT LEAST !

Perhaps the distance between the sway bar and the control arm is 2 & 3/8" but the entire length of the link has got to be closer to 5".

Keep your receipt just in case !
Good luck,

Dave

Well, considering both of mine are broken, I don't have a complete one to measure. However, I did have the same concern about the length after I measured what was left in the sway bar. I'm just going to get one of each and see which one fits. Seems to be the easiest way to go at this point. Unless someone has some links that aren't broken and can measure them real quick and solve the mystery once and for all.

I'll measure mine tomorrow morning and post here by 9 or 10 am but I still think it's going to be at least 4 inches.

Hold on 'till tomorrow,

Thanks, Dave. I'm sure you're right. I believe the 2 3/8" measurement is the space between the bushings. I'll wait to do anything until I get your measurement. I appreciate the help.

Here's an example: http://www.energysuspensionparts.com/proddetail.asp?prod=9.8125

Six inches Dude.

From the top of the bolt to the bottom is 6 inches.  There's no doubt you could get away with 5 & 1/2 mmmmaayyyybbbee  5" but my aftermarket bolts are 6".

If you need something else then just post, okay?

Good luck,
Dave

Ok, that makes sense. I guess all I really need to know now is, what is the space between the bushings?

Just thought of something, Dave. Will the fact that I have a 91 non turbo make a difference on the size of the links? I think I have been seeing different sizes for the XR2. Anyway, just thinking out loud.

Thanks!

The difference might lie in front vs. Rear? The fronts are all the same size IIRC.

I'd think that they're all the same length but you're in luck because my '91 is a non-turbo as well so no worries !

If anything, maybe the XR-2 has a thicker diameter roll bars ?  I don't know if the links are different.

Well, no stress, then! I just want to get those little things replaced. All I need after that is both half shafts (unless I can just do the CV boots, but I might as well just replace the whole thing), 2 new tires (rear), new struts, valve cover gasket, spark plugs, plug wires, distributor cap, rotor and air filter.    Oh, and of course those pesky support lifts in the trunk. Once all of that is done, it's time for the cosmetic stuff.

You can get just the boots, or just the CV joints... make sure your joints are not worn out

I measured the distance from the top of the lower control arm to the bottom of the sway bar. I get 2 and 3/8" .

Good enough ?

If you can't get the speedi-boots for the CV joints then just pump 'em full of grease and hope for the best.  It'll work for a lot longer than you'd think it would.

Mystery solved! That's exactly what I needed to know.

SPPEDI-BOOTS!! That's what they're called. I remember using those on an old Honda Civic years ago. I need to take a look at my driver's side CV joint and make sure it is ok, then I think I'll just change the boots.

Thanks again for all the help!
