I was wondering the best route to go with brakes? I'm looking to replace mine in the next couple weeks. Do they make drilled/slotted rotors? Or is there a better upgrade?

I have to replace my wheel bearings. So I figure while everything is apart I can upgrade the most important part of the car. lol.

I have a thread as a basic guide for wheel bearings, I just threw it up fairly recently. I also have a thread somewhere outlining the Galant Big Brake upgrade.

So drilled and slotted or just go with the gallant brakes? Whats pros cons on both if ne?

I checked your  guide to do it. I'll be ordering the parts soon. But I'm going to wait to install till I wanna do my brakes.

Why not drilled and slotted gallant brakes? they are available.

If I had to pick from one or the other, there is no question in my mind which one I would chose - go with the big brakes! After riding in a Capri with the upgraded brakes, you'll realize that there is no other way to go!

I actually just started looking on ebay and other pages for a set. Idk why I didnt think of it before. Anyways on a scale of 1-10 how hard is the big brake upgrade. I've replaced brakes before. I know I have to grind something. Will it have to be really precise?

Yes you have to be fairly precise about it. I took mine into work and threw them on a metal lathe to make em perfect.

Some guys have ground theirs but I dont approve of that method, you can do what you want though.

I'm thinking about taking spare hubs and upgrading them, and selling them as a bolt-on upgrade.

On a scale of 1-10? Maybe a 6 or 7? Doing the bearings without the proper tools is pretty damn difficult, I've managed to make it work but I will be investing in a shop press and the proper bearing separators soon. Getting the inner race off the spindle is always a challenge

Also, as far as drilled / slotted go, if you do some reading they are not looked highly upon for a street driven car. I've seen firsthand how they can crack.

Slotted - okay, but drilled weakens the rotor, I've seen hairline cracks originate from the holes drilled. (especially on the thin stock rotors)

All this IMHO of course YMMV-

Copy/pasted my post from another thread, triple post FTW-

Front hubs require machining (easiest) or fairly precise hand-grinding for the Galant rotors to fit. The hub gets machined so the hat of the rotor fits over the hub.

You need to take apart the stock hub setup, remove the old brake rotor, drive out the old lug studs & install new longer studs. Its a good time to replace your bearings and seals.

The proper rotors to use are 89.5 Galant rotors - 266mm (10 15/32) Please note there are also 256mm (too small) and 276mm rotors (the 276mm is the VR4 rotor. it requires too much grinding in the caliper throat and wont add any effective braking area)

The caliper needs to be ground out in the throat to clear the edge of the rotor. It does not need much with the 266mm rotors.

The Escort caliper will bolt right to the stock knuckle.

Use this as a general guide:  http://323gtx.homestead.com/brakes.html

And heres a comparison pic, stock vs. Galant upgrade

Well if u end up wanting to sell a bolt on kit let me know. I'll have to save up some cash from my next pay cuz the money I have no is for a mbc, your chip and new pads. Just give me a price so I know what I'll be needing. Thanks guys for the info  :D  I'll prob stick with just slotted then. Cuz I tend to heat my brakes up alot  ;)

Might be a little pricey...Corksport used to sell the kit for $535 it was just the parts still had to do the machining. Not saying it'll be that expensive; but it could be pricey

Well if I could get the parts. Would you be able to machine it for me? I'll either come to you or mail em. I know with more power comes the need to be able to slow it down. And I would like to upgrade my brakes after my chip mbc and fmic. I think at that point I'll be pretty close to what I want (For now) when it comes to power. With winter on its way I'll be able to save for more for the spring.

So far I'm able to get my mbc and chip. Next pay will be fmic. I just found out my exhaust is brand new. Pretty sure 2.5. Its what was listed on the ad.
After brakes I'll end up working on suspension.
Probably just gonna paint it flat black before winter. I have some nasty rust on my rockers. Luckily its not bad rust just surface but I rather not take the chances of the salt from the winter killing my car. Other than that the car is amazing body wise. Just the white paint kills bdc(Barbies dream car) friends want it hot pink lol..

Gotta agree with Rocketman. Most people just like slotted, you don't get extra ****** in 'em like drilled. Although there's not much offriad rallying with these. Had Greenstuff pads and stainless lines in a diff. car and that thing stopped on a dime. I just picked up slotted and drilled since they weren't too exp. If you go eBay check feedback-some places are worthless.

My car has the brake upgrade, I would be afraid of it if it didn't!! Due to my rather 'spirited driving habits', good brakes are essential! I believe that Joe said it best when he said; if you make it fast, make it stop fast also, or sumptin like that. I actually want better brakes than the upgraded ones. Now that the car is going faster, the need to stop has increased 10 fold! Oh by the way, I highly recommend a 2-stage boost control. It allows you to switch to a higher boost when you want, but allows the car to run at a lower boost when you don't, thereby allowng less wear and tear on your vehicle. I believe that alot of the guys run this setup. Cory from tunerfixx was the fellow who I bought it from, good investment, and good guy. He knows the B6T motor and has good input on this forum!

Yeah I'm building a budget 2 stage by using a solonoid. Right now my car has jumped timing or something. Cuz its running like shit. I got updates on it but wiht it running bad again I'm not sure wat to do.. It just randomly does this.
