What is 94 xr2 worth? 35k red
« on: February 01, 2012, 03:56:00 AM »

Yes, from the photos I have seen, the car looks to be in good condition, no dings and paint does not appear to be peeling from bumpers.

I have a 91 red xr2 with 70k miles.  I love it, runs and looks great. But, the cloth interior is somewhat of a negative.  I have gotten estimates to have interior re-done in leather for about $1500.  I have also bought a pair of leather racing seats (I have concerns that driving body position might change if I install the racing seats).

I guess my question is, should I sell my 91 and buy the 94?  The price of the 94 is about 5000 and I think my 91 should be go for 2500.  I know my car is running good, the 94 has only 35000 miles, but, still unknown what problems it may have.  Is the 94 worth $2500 more than 91?

Another 'but', after looking at some of pics of capri's, I really love the cobalt blue. A blue xr2 is now my dream car.  Should I just wait and see if a blue XR2 becomes available?

Again, thank you for reading and thank you for any opinions.  Have good day.

If you plan on keeping the miles low and not modifying the 94, I'd say buy it! There were only 366 94 XR2's built, 358 shipped to the US, and only 122 painted Le Mons red. If you wanted to wait for a Cobalt Blue one to come up for sale, you may be waiting for awhile: only 36 Cobalt Blue 94 XR2's rolled off the assembly line.
Get the last 5 digits of the VIN number, and I will verify it for you. I can tell you if it is truly a XR2, where it was originally delivered, and it's production sequence.
If you have any questions, feel free to call us: 503-919-4227
I may know of a Cobalt Blue 94 XR2 for sale.......I'll have to give them a call and see if it's still available.

I think I am a little safe, I sent the seller a deposit.  I was really surprized that none of you guys in the Capri world did not come across the CL add.

BTW, I am also commited to buy a '94 cobalt blue auto.  The 94 has 73k miles and our agreed price is $1500.  My intention is the automatic will be for my wife, she does not know how to drive sticks (and she is too old and too chinese to learn).  But,.....just a bit curious, is it possible or has anyone tried to convert a auto to manual?  I will be doing searches on this subject.

I put my 91XR2 on CL (CL Los Angeles), but if I dont get at least $2700. for it, I am keeping it. 6 months ago, I had no idea what a Capri was/is, now, looks like I am going to have three.

Heh, you seem to have caught the bug like everyone else!

Auto to manual swap is very possible but you need a decent pile 'o parts to pull it off. Shortlist:
Trans
Flywheel & clutch
Axles (auto & n/a 5spd might be the same??)
Shifter
Manual pedal assembly & master cylinder
Maybe engine harness + ECU, not sure on that one. Is there a neutral rev limiter?

Of course the parts list differs a bit if you're going with an XR2 transmission

The 94 XR2 you are interested in is a Magenta car originally from Nevada, and was the 227th 94 XR2 off the line. It is one of only 28 painted Magenta......

Cobolt blue is such a beautiful color to be wasted on an auto.  I have driven a Capri auto, and it was so slow.  Let me pick up 94 first, but I am thinking just switching everything from my 91 XR2 to 94.  I think the wiring harness should be the same? Maybe the axles are different from 91 to 94?

The XR2 uses special axles, and all XR2's used the same axles 91-94. (there is an extra intermediate shaft bolted to the block to help reduce torque steer, due to the extra torque the turbo provides)

The engine wiring harness is totally different in the XR2 - it is specific to the turbo engine.

I kinda decided against buying the 94 XR2 with 35000 miles. I know Russ and others have told me 94's since they are so rare, will some day be worth money. If, anyone is interested on getting information on seller, let me know.  He says he plans on listing in 'Ebay' when the weather warms.  He thinks he can get more. Maybe the seller can return my $200. deposit

My plans now, is find a non-turb 94 and exchange bumpers and taillights and repainting.  Making my 91 look like a 94
