AZGTX car rebuild
« on: July 29, 2009, 10:41:00 AM »

Hey Arizona! I saw your posting regarding your cars progress. Looking real good. I've always wondered what the starion I/C looks like, nice. What is 17 turbo about? Never heard reference before! I have a 16/14 Hybrid. I'm surprised with all your work that a tube header is not in place. And finally I like your use of the flex coupling on the exhaust. As you know I can't comment on the other forum. Terry is busy telling a forum member he can't help on an exhaust manifold and the both of them are discussing the looks of BG and BF 323s.  Gus

Gus-
If you wanted to know what a Starion IC looks like, all you had to do was ask!!

They are originally different. That intercooler was cut and re-welded so it would fit on the capri easier

Hey Russ! I apologize for my comment. When I read it after posting, I realized how harsh it came out. I was curious because Corey had his for sale and I was interested. He never came back after I called him about being interested.  Gus

Hey David!  Generally inter-coolers are associated with turbo-charged cars but can put on n/a cars also. They're used to cool down the intake air before going into the engine. There are also several methods of achieving this. If you are further curious then say so are I or some-one else will pipe in and make further statements.  Gus

Gus, I am interested.  Where are they mounted?  There is a small condensor like block just inside the grill.  Then there is what appears to be a smaller radiator infront of the radiator.  This is on my XR2 and my NA.

Hey David!  On XR2s, there is a small inter-cooler on passenger side next to the radiator. It's generally considered small. Many people who start tuning or modifying their engines also increase the size of the inter-cooler. On our capris they are monted in front of the radiator. Generally the grill opening is enlarged. Also the piping size is slightly increased. Every one has there idea of a perfect inter-cooler for their car, some times this driven by economics. The I/C from a mitsubishi Starion is an up-grade in cooling from our stock units and can be had cheaply from a pick-n-pull yard, hence the mention. There are many I/Cs available on Ebay in many different sizes and piping sizes and locations of the piping. The I/C that Russ posted has the piping locations changed. Rocket apparently modified it to fit his car but others have fitted these to their Capris with-out modifying the hose ports. I'm not knowledged in posting photos, so"I" can't help on visuals. I'm sure several members will soon post their installs to give you examples of their Capris.  Gus.
