I ask many questions and get much needed info, so I thought I would save a newbie (I am a semi-newbie) some time.

I was putting in a cold air intake: removing the big black box and putting in the cone.

After removing the top of the air filter box, I noticed what looked like four bolts holding on the air flow meter. To my surprise, one of the "bolts" was a bolt; the other three attachments were nuts which were attached to tiny studs. These three studs had to come out because the adapter bracket had to fit against this module.

Evidently someone had been in the VAF before me.

The studs broke loose pretty easily with vice grips.

First thing: The holes were all the same size, and threaded.
Second thing: you will find that 3 of the 4 holes are open ended. One hole bottomed out into the module.

Now I had to attach the new cold air adapter to the module.  I wanted to make sure the new bolt would be long enough to snug up the new adapter.  Since one of the bolt hole was not open ended. I was limited to the length of the attaching bolt.

I took the module  and adapter into Home Depot and here is what I found:

All four bolt are size M6

I used 3 bolts- size 1.0 x 20mm for the open ended holes
I used 1 bolt- size 1.0 x 16mm  for the hole which was not open

here is a link to the pic of the bolt bags and the new adapter.

Hope this saves someone some time in planning to use the adapter for the cold air intake.
