Today I installed new Gabriel Ultra rear struts. The passenger side had no damping and no gas charge. The driver side was still holding a gas charge.

I was expecting an ordeal with the bolts being rusted as these were the original factory struts. But luckily it all came apart pretty easily. The bolts were still shiny and rust free inside the lower arm bushing and the spindle.

As I always have done, I wipe down the new parts with acetone and then put a couple coats of clear paint on them to keep them looking fresh and shiny. It is a car I show regularly during the summer.

When it finally stops raining I will go for a test drive. I have had a bit of an oscillation jumpy feeling in the rear. I am sure the passenger wheel was doing a little bouncing on the road.

I've used Gabriel shocks before satisfactorily and am wondering why you chose they over the commonly available Monroe and KYB's.

I just emailed Koni this week about finding an insert for us that will allow at least rebound control with a set of their Yellow's in our stock housings. We NEED more options. Gabriel, KYB, Sachs are fine for OEM ride height but that won't do for me. This is my current setup and I was lucky enough to find a full set of NOS Tokico HP's from the 323.

I am still battling electrical demons on my car. Headlight doors seems to have a mind of their own. I can attempt to turn them on and nothing happens then I can let the car sit a day or two and they work fine. I smelled burning wires from inside the center of the dash so on Monday ( May 6, 2019) I will be pulling the whole dash apart to look for the culprit but I have a suspect in mind and that is the radio harness since its been coming on and off a lot on its own. Seriously, I am thinking about building a rear deck to house the battery, custom made fuse box and radio amps all in a neat orderly fashion. I do not use my trunk for anything but keeping tools in since I seem to be fixing my car on a daily basis. lol  Hope everyone had a great weekend!! Terry

I met David Young and acquired my third Capri.  He was super nice and gave me a good deal. It ran like a champ on the way back to NC from PA and I got 29MPG on my first tank and 30MPG on my second.  I'm looking forward to enjoying my new acquisition and continuing my friendship with David. Look for donor car for sale in the near future.  He sold this one because he had no space, now I've got the same problem.

Congrats Jack, that is a nice car you picked up. I've seen it many times in person and have wrenched on it a bit here and there. Super clean

Glad that it all went well Jack! Which one may be on the chopping block?

With two XR2's now, I think my original that I had been using for parts is time to go.

Today I installed the stainless braided brake hoses. I was worried about running into brake fittings at the lines that were rusted and seized.

Luckily I had no problems.

I only took 1 picture as the sky to the west was getting dark and I wanted to complete the job before any rain started. So sick of all the rain this season.
