91 Headlight
« on: July 21, 2014, 07:13:52 PM »

The drivers side head light on my 91 Capri will open and close but does so very irratically.  I sometimes have to toggle the switch several times to get it fully upright.  The passengers side works just fine and both lights work.  I have a clicking in the module under the radio while it is opening or closing.

Could the module be bad on only one side?

Could the motor be binding on the bad side?

A used module is $250 , with no guarantee.  I really do not want to buy one.

Any tips would be appreciated.

thanks,

Lou

Sounds like the rotary switch inside the motor needs to be cleaned. Super simple fix - it just takes some time to get the motor out to clean it.

This is the part inside that needs cleaned, along with the tips of the finger contacts:

Thanks Rocketman.  I finally had some vacation time and I took apart the headlight motor and cleaned it and put dielectric grease on the contacts.  Works like new now.

Thanks again!
