My CNC router projects
« on: June 04, 2014, 07:53:44 AM »

My newest addition to the shop is a nice little machine:

It's a 24"x24" CNC router. Capable of some really cool stuff. Right now I am getting the hang of things, sticking with 2D artwork for now. I should be moving up to 2.5D and 3d work pretty soon.
This opens up a lot of doors for making all sorts of things, as well as allowing me to easily make high quality patterns to cast parts from.
Note: This isn't what most people think of when they hear "CNC" - the term simply means Computer Numberic Control, and this applies to a massive number of pieces of modern (and at this point, some vintage) machinery.

Got some vee-carving bits. With the right software they can be used to make some very unique signs. Here's a popular "beginner" project

Finally getting a hang of 3D carving. This is the type of stuff I got the machine for

These are parts for a pattern that will make a ITB/base manifold to fit a BP head

Some more projects:

12x15" v-carved wedding sign. Stained oak plywood

For mother's day :D

Cut some patterns to make an e-cigarette/personal vaporizer:

Machined them into a finished piece. Works really well!

V-carved another sign, this one is the logo for a local vape/e-cig shop. They loved it, it's hanging in their lounge already

I made these stands for my sister, she's got into the hobby of making custom cards & such, and needed a nice way to display them.

And this is a turbo adapter for a Subaru VF10 turbo, the body is the same as my GTR adapters but with the VF10 specific flange. The pattern was all made on the CNC, assembled, molded & cast by hand.

Nice work.  The 3D stuff is what I did in the thermoform business except that I went straight to aluminum with a Haas milling machine.  You have a good eye for design and seem to be learning the mechanical end well.  I wish you the best of luck with your business.

Jack,

I have been making stuff for many years now (even as a kid I was!) this is just a fancy new tool for it :)

Here's a deluxe vaporizer/"e-cig" stand

And a deluxe vaporizer

Father's Day commission for a friend ( I can make more of these with any text - pm me!)
