New plug wire cover in the works
« on: April 19, 2014, 08:30:34 PM »

Okay, so I tried to make a plug wire cover back in the day and the results were less than stellar, so I never put them into production. Some of the 1.8 crew have renewed my interest in making them, so I'm having a second go at them with a better mounting system. (this is for the 1.6 of course)

This is what I had back in 2009: http://teamcapri.com/forum/index.php/topic,1787.msg8144.html#msg8144

Here's what I'm working with today (this is a wood model, the finished item will be cast):

These won't really have a function other than maybe keeping critters from nesting around or chewing on the wires, it'll be a cosmetic item to tidy up the engine bay.

The "TURBO" design is a standard design I plan on making (it's based on the early/JDM B6T intake manifold in first pic), I'll have to figure one out for the nonturbo engines. With my CNC router I'll be able to make custom designs or logos too! :D (Hear that Mark, we can do "UnNaturally Aspirated" for ya!)

I know what critters can do; critters called RATS.
Have told before that 6 months ago I was back east for almost 2 weeks.
Came back, opened the hood, and there were seeds from palm trees (the rats ate the outside pulp) all over my valve cover, I mean covered. They must have lived there because there was also rat droppings all around the seeds.
Then they wanted desert. The desert was my speedometer cable, which they gnawed from the block bracket backward about 4 inches.  Until I get another cable, I was told by a very resourceful mechanic to tie off the cable near the radiator with a plastic zip tie.  It works.
If you can keep critters out, you are a good man.

I decided to shrink the "TURBO" text and move it all the way to the right. I always forget that the Capri has the intake tube running over the valvecover, and would obstruct the text.

I'm used to the 1.8, don't have that problem :p
