parker light conversion
« on: December 02, 2008, 07:46:00 PM »

I noticed the parker light globes were something of old technology and trouble-some little things. The globes don't seem to be as common as they use to be and I found they wern't lasting. I recall seeing these types of bulbs in garden lights also back in the days...regardless, I dont like them.

So...

I decided to convert them over to a complete new system. They now use a halogen bi-pin globe.
12v 5watts. Perfect fit, perfect wattage, and slightly brighter too ! During the conversion when I had finished the 1st one, I was comparing it between the old globe. There's definitely a difference. Cleaner and brighter look. They are approx. 2000 hour globe, last a long time, I can vouch for them also for as I have been selling them for 12 years.

Regards,

P.S Dont ask why between the two photos the red came out different on the car. Nokia phones, what can I say. Might of being the angle or rather...

The bulb socket is very problematic - the pins like to corrode.

I too had issues, I had been wanting to put a cluster of white LED's in there that would look very crisp and I would never have to deal with them again.

On my old Capri I had blue LED's in the corner there activated by a switch. They looked wicked.

So you implanted a new socket into the housing?

Hey spiro,
are you putting together a kit and how much would it cost? my bulbs keep burning out and the light emitted is a dull yellow (if even yellow) colour
i think you've come up with a pretty good idea, how much work is involved?

hi Rocket! hi yen!

Easy as pie. 10 minute job. 20-30 minutes drying. After you disconnect the cables, all you do is drill out the old socket, leaving a nice clean round hole. "Small hole." Buy a "push-in" springloaded halogen lamp holder from any electrical wholesaler or lightshop(commonly used for downlights). I used a high heat temp silicon/glue to hold the base onto the main assembly. Test how the lampholder fits in, nice and snug and then adjust the whole size if you need to accordingly by using the next size drill bit and so on....etc. I got the size 1st go. Easy to judge.

If you look closely around the sides, in the pics, you'll see its sorta puffy, white. Thats the silicon. I got excited though, you wont have to use that much. Thats it!

Thanks a bundle spiro!
sounds pretty straight forward. i think this thread should be in the tech section of the forum.
i'll probably give it a go over my work break but pooh, i dont have the tools.
is there a problem with running a light originally designed to be used in houses on the electrical system of a car? i'm not an electrician but im certain they're opposing currents eg AC vs DC current. i used to have to run anything that was a home appliance through a power converter/transformer plugged into my cig lighter.
and how is light emission afterwards? do you have a pic of the conversion in action?

too cool, spiro
