Who would be interested in a tuneable plug'n'play ECU?
« on: November 14, 2013, 10:50:07 PM »

Gauging interest here. Who's be interested in a plug'n'play standalone ECU? It would be a Megasquirt system made specifically for the Capri. N/A or turbo!

I'm interested in building & configuring these and loading a base tune onto them, so you could for the most part run it as-is out of the box but could tune it to your needs. The tuning is relatively easy with a laptop.

This would allow you to:
-Run any size fuel injectors you want
-Run a much larger turbo than the stock ECU can support (T3, T3/T4, GT28/30 series etc etc )
-Run a rev limiter anywhere you want

That's just the basic stuff, there's almost literally too much to list but I'll mention a few more:
-Run E85/flex fuel
-Add some hardware to the engine to run Coilpacks, or coil-on-plug ("COP")
-Integrated boost control
-Flat foot shifting
-Launch control
-Add some hardware & you can get sequential fuel injection

There are some individuals and some companies that make these for other cars, and as the Capri really doesn't have much support I figured I'd ask. Price point would be around the $600 mark for a standard ECU, extra options may be more.

I'd vote for that [what the wife don't know] Matt you seen what I've done to my NA as far as exhaust an intake, were could I go with it? Do they chips for the Na like you have done for the turbo? Later John

Silently raises hand.

Yes. Please! I've got a fabricator buddy that finally got to see and drive my car. He's ready to help me do some serious work on it. We're all gear heads and are extremely capable of making the best out of this little big/engine. Do you still have any plans in the making of any sort to get this idea rolling?

No plans really. I can point you towards a good MS system, if you want. I've almost no interest elsewhere, noone seems to be pushing their Capri far enough to warrant a good standalone, and if they are they already have a solution for it

We ought to have a chat about one of these assemblies for my B6T once I get the VF10 up and running!

Just isn't going to happen now man. Not nearly enough interest. Sorry. I can help you go over an MS setup for your car at some point though, shoot me a PM

This is exciting.  From my experience, the Festiva people would be more interested in this.  I only wish I could afford to go there with my Capri XR2.

Its a 4 year old thread. You can still install your own MS unit for the above benefits, but there still aren't any plug 'n play options.

"BPperformance" on Facebook have some good tuning options for both B6T & BP

Yes, BP Performance has some really cool stuff going on down there.  It looks like they're trying to bring the B series into the 21st century.

Was this idea ever actually made? Or is the Rocketchip still the best way to go for an ECU tune?

I've installed a Megasquirt in my old XR2, back in 'the day'. I ended up running the stock ECU with a Rocketchip, even on my BP swap.
I never developed a plug'n'play. Not enough interest, and with what they are capable of now a Plug'n'Play would be a horrible compromise, not utilizing nearly what an MS can do.
Megasquirt is still an option, there are a few other homebrew ECUs out there now too. The ability to add coilpacks and delete the VAF are some of the best benefits that can't be done with a PnP solution

Both of mine have IAC function problems, and I was wondering  what coilpacks were worth.  Is there a modern replacement for the  VAF and IAC?

There is also the RUSEFI out there that is insanely configurable/DIY.
