Floppy windshield wipers
« on: November 12, 2013, 07:32:47 PM »

The wipers on my 94 are very loose and can be moved 2-3" up and down by hand when they are off.  You can see how high they are on the photo below.  The wipers on my daily driver are tight and can't be moved very easily.  Can the wiper linkage be adjusted or tightened or is the looseness due to the wiper motor?

It may be in the linkage, or it may be the bases of the arms are stripped. If you move one arm, does the other move as well?

Yes, both wipers move together when you move one of them. I don't believe they're stripped but thought there might be something under the cowl to adjust. I know wiper linkages do loosen with time but I don't know what causes it.

The linkage is all connected together with little white plastic joints - kind of like Heim joints. One of those may be worn or stretched....?  I'll try and get a picture for you this weekend!

CapriTypeR - can you take a picture of your wipers soon?  I'm ready to tackle this project in the next few weeks.  Thanks.

Gotta say, that is a nice looking Capri.
Am doing quite a bit to my 91 xr2, and the paint is last thing to do.
If mine looked like yours, my gf would have a different atttitude.
She calls it the POS car. Some days she says it is cute, but it neeeeeeds paint.
I will show it to her.
You did me a favor posting this.
We will see
